Why are they so stingy with the suit?

This show seems to have a problem with the dare devil iconography. Rarely showing him in his suit, or using his batons and other gadgets. Is it because they are trying to keep it realistic?

He is so rarely in his full glory. Either no suit, or he is injured. Why? That is what we are here for right?

Both Daredevil and Iron fist have that problem. I guess they want to keep things grounded. I think grounding the superhero genre is a bit counterproductive, but there it is.

I thought in this season it was because Matt no longer wanted to be Daredevil?

Well, also to differentiate between him and Poindexter in his costume.

The suit looks bad in action and the gadgets are largely impractical for a TV series on a budget.

It's why the Netflix shows rarely had characters wearing full-blown superhero costumes (only Daredevil and Diamondback in the last two episodes of Luke Cage, Season 1). Ninja garb seems to be easier to get away with.

Daredevil should really be more like Spider-Man, in terms of his costume, fighting style and ability to swing around the city ... but that's the difference between TV and film.

Well he does wear it the whole second season and in the Defenders so I don't think they have a problem showing it. In S1 they had a buildup to it. He didn't wear it in season 3 because of ideological reasons. I think in S3 he says in one episode "I've outgrown its purpose" or something of that sort. S4 he will probably return to it or maybe a new one.

Also Bullseye wears the suit in S3 so I don't think there is any issue with showing it.

Yeah, I hate to see him get so beat up without the suit...but this season I think that was part of the point. He was so conflicted about being Daredevil that he felt like he needed to pay the consequences and take all the risk for what he was doing and not take the easy way..
Maybe it's his Catholic guilt or his PTSD or just his own ambiguity of whether he was taking the right path.
I hope he gets a new suit next season. If Bullseye is out there supercharged he's going to need all the help he can get.

I think they did a reasonable job of exploring his super senses in S3. I still would like to see more billy club action - particularly its grappling hook usage. Being perched on a rooftop simply isn't as effective a visual when he's not in the suit.

There are those who prefer the black outfit. They feel it represents who Matt is better than the Devil suit, especially in this season (which was the whole point). I, for one, was delighted to see him go back to basics—it was badass! But apart from them wanting to bring a more grounded approach like season 1, Matt in season 3 wanted to escape from the Daredevil identity as he was essentially at odds with himself and no longer felt a connection to said identity.

What’s more, Matt unquestionably had a death wish early on; putting himself at risk like that wasn’t a problem for him, ergo what’s the point of wearing a suit that offers protection? Anyways even if Matt wanted his old suit again... it’s not like it would’ve easily been accessible to him. The last one was most likely ruined and things with Melvin didn’t end so well. Then there’s the whole Dex impersonating Daredevil deal.

With all that said, Murdock should absolutely upgrade next season. I would love his next suit to be more similar to the comics while still retaining its practicality. Time to really let the Devil out!
