Not in Maine

Why do movie makers do this they use State's in there movies but they don't film there example there suppose to be in a lodge in Maine but the lo cation is in Canada why isn't Maine good enough for a movie?

reply

It's usually cheaper to film in Canada.

reply

Just some pointers to help you out. I realize you may not be a native English speaker but it sounds like you are.

"they use *STATES*" No need for an apostrophe here. It's a plural, not a possessive or contraction.

"in there movies" It should be "in *their* movies" possessive

there: opposite of 'here'
they're: contraction of 'they are'
their: possessive -- Their dog bit me.

"there suppose to be" It should be " *They're* supposed* to be...

It's also important to use a little bit of punctuation to separate your thoughts into proper sentences.
"Why do movie makers do this? They use *states/States* in *their* movies but they don't film there. Example: *They're* supposed* to be in a lodge in Maine but the location is in Canada. Why isn't Maine good enough for a movie?"

I know you didn't ask for any corrections but if no one points out these errors to you, you will keep on making these mistakes.

Have a nice day. :)

Seriously? I'm all about correcting grammar as well, but this is ridiculous.

reply

If you think this is ridiculous, then you're not really 'all about correcting grammar'.

reply

Why do you care if he/she keeps making errors? Skip it if you don't like it. This isn't school. Plus, you should be sure your post is perfect if you are going to correct others. Read up on your comma rules.

reply

We learn these things in school for a reason, not just to take up time!

What's the problem with the commas?

I don't think anyone comes to IMDB for a grammar lesson.

reply

I wish more people cared. It's really annoying to read comments that are practically illegible because they don't know how to spell, their grammar, or punctuation.

Then- a place in time.
Than- preference between one or the other.

reply

Considering a lot of us post from our phone we don't care. Considering the education system these days most of us do not know proper grammar.

reply

And that is very sad. I am typing this on my phone and I care about making it right.

When you say that it's because of the Education system, it's like resolving not to rise above that. "Oh well, they didn't teach me that in school so I guess it's not that important."

Saaaaaaad.

reply

Just so you know, education does not need to be capitalized. It's not a proper noun.

reply

Amen!

I think it's also ridiculous that people use the excuse "This isn't school." Well, Hello! We learned- or were *supposed* to have learned- this stuff in school so that we are able to write sentences that make sense in life. Well this is life, people!

If you think learning ends when you graduate from school, that is sad. We are learning all the time so if you make a grammar or spelling mistake and someone points it out to you, it's pretty sad if you get all hot and bothered about it and act as if you don't want to be more intelligent!

reply

Most people don't want to be more intelligent; they want their egos massaged.

Then- a place in time.
Than- preference between one or the other.

reply

Sadly, that's true.

reply

I'm on your side, Sioban. To those who have a decent education, all the grammar errors are a distraction. If you want educated people to take your opinion seriously, use good grammar.

reply

Ahh, thank you.

I think it's funny when people hope to insult me with the words 'Grammar Nazi'. I am fine with it. I would rather be a Grammar Nazi than look ignorant making a bunch of mistakes and then swearing at people for trying to make me less ignorant. I just can't help but wonder what they were doing when the teacher was explaining this stuff in school. Then I also wonder if the teacher understood or taught this stuff at all! I heard a principal talking on the news lately about switching from letter grades to comments. His example of a comment was "Your child is doing very good..." Oh I wanted to send a comment to that school!!

For those of you who don't know, 'doing very good' (even just 'doing good') is a bad grammar mistake! You should say 'doing very well'! Ugh!

reply

"His example of a comment was "Your child is doing very good..." Oh I wanted to send a comment to that school!" I would have!

reply

Good! I actually tried but couldn't do it unless I phoned the school. Something stopped me from going that far!

reply

LOL. Probably fear of retaliation on your child. I would only do it anonymously to the principal and not name the teacher, not desiring to get the teacher in trouble, but as a general heads so the teachers would take more care. I was reading the other day that some major city was having trouble finding police officer candidates who could write an understandable police report.

reply

Oh that's sad!

Well I don't have kids so it wasn't that. I just hope that someone pointed out the mistake to the principal. It would be better if he got a lot of comments about it so that the point really gets made. It's a bad mistake to be made by the principal of a school!

Thank you.

Correcting spelling and grammar on a backwoods forum like this one doesn't make you as smart as you think it does.
