The critics crucified him

The 32/100 mean metascore is extremely harsh, this movie was no groundbreaking masterpiece but i think the condemnation was uncalled for.

I am uncertain if critics do public relations with their ratings, simply conform or what their motives are (if any), but what i do know is that i was initially discouraged to watch this film due to the low meta rating and looking past that now i am glad i did watch it as i truly enjoyed it and i thought it was a remarkable effort for someone who was inert for several years.

Just saw this movie and I'm stunned - stunned - at the low ratings. From the director of The Others and The Sea Inside, yet critics dismissed it as a flavor-of-the-week boo movie. It's so much more than that. I haven't seen such a layered social commentary and coherent use of symbolism in a long time. The way the threads of the movie added up to that shot of the girl on TV was kind of inspired. This movie had a lot to say about many important things.

Well said, it was a meticulously constructed multi-layered, essential story and i truly am perplexed on the unfavorable critical reception, it doesn't deserve this treatment.

Probably they didn't want to rattle the cage. Certain people got millions of dollars in damages after testifying about certain events from their childhood.

I'm gonna try and watch it tomorrow. Hoping I will be pleasantly surprised, I always love the hidden gems.
