Why the hate on the ending? [Spoilers]

I just saw the movie, and I have a hard time understanding the hate the ending of the movie gets. I'm not sure how else it could have ended to be honest, except possibly for people being disgraced for their involvement in the case, and furthering the hysteria. I feel however that that's out of the scope of what the movie is trying to say.

Some might find me morally challenged or morally ambiguous. I prefer morally creative.

I have no idea why people hated it, it reminded me of a lesser Primal Fear although a little different in its themes. I thought that the movie had a perfect ending on thankfully didn't go down the normal route of solely blaming religion and Christianity for what happened.
