How did the dad know...

To finger the cop who was having an affair with his daughter if all of his memories were fabricated? And how would he know anyway? Or did I miss something....?

It was Angela (Emma's character) who fingered the cop in a display of faces shown to her at the police station.
Not the dad.
They had already arrested the guy before they told the father.

No, the dad gave the cops name, then Ethan Hawk confronted him in the parking garage and the cop was arrested. Then they saw Emma Watson and she identified the cop from the photos.

Perhaps the dad remembered the cop from when he visited their house, after all he was sleeping with Emma Watson.

I was never one to hold grudges. My father held grudges, I'll always hate him for that

Ah, yes, so it was.
But then, all of her 'recollections' of abuse were BS because she made them all up to get back at her 'loser' family.

Well, if the cop was having an affair with his daughter, why would he NOT know about it? I mean, he must have at least seen them together at some point.

Plus, you figure the grandmother might know as well.

Maybe the dad was sort of pushing that knowledge down in his mind- not wanting to connect the dots/rationalizing why the cop guy might be hanging around his daughter. Then when they did this regression technique with him, sure, he was led by the psychologist and detective to invent memories of himself abusing his daughter but when they pushed him to say someone else was involved, his mind tossed up the one connection to his daughter that was already in his head.

I think the dad, during his regression therapy, described a distorted image/memory of seeing the cop with his daughter. Something he probably witnessed through the haze of his drunkenness. Maybe the cob and the girl were into sex games where he tied her up, or maybe that's just the perception of a dad seeing some guy bang his daughter.
