Why wasn't he recording it? (SPOILER)

Was anyone else really surprised that Kenner was always recording interviews on his micro-recorder, yet when he confronted Angela he wasn't taping it? It seemed like a typical movie trope when she dropped the act and told him no one would believe him. I thought for sure he'd caught the whole thing on tape!

I though that...I was expecting him to whip out his little tape recorder after she had "confessed" but it never happened. Not sure if I like that or not.

I was never one to hold grudges. My father held grudges, I'll always hate him for that

I wonder if he was recording it and the specific reveal of that was cut? The Chief clearly completely agrees with Bruce's final analysis of Angela and the case in general, while days earlier, he was fully on board with the cult theory. I'm not sure how that would be, unless Bruce shared a recording of Angela in what was basically a confession. I don't think that such a recording would be admissible in court, so that would explain why the Chief believes him but the public situation ends up the way it does.
