Worst trivia

Every piece of trivia for this movie is uninteresting and nothing to do with the movie. Makes me wonder who puts the trivia in these movies.

Arithmomaniacs? (not a made up word, google it)

"This is Emma Watson's 6th film after Harry Potter, and Amenabar's 6 film as director. The film deals with the theme of Satan, whose infamous number is 6."

LOL

reply

So what? The biblical number for Satan is 666 (actually six hundred threescore and six, which many scholars agree refers to Roman Emperor Nero), not 6.

You put it in the trivia section as well so it must be WAY more interesting to you than to most users on IMDB.

reply

Sorry but you are wrong.
It may or not refer to Nero, some say the Pope, others claim other people, and like everything from the bible it's open to many interpretations or misinterpretations.
But (bible-wise) it doesn't refer to Satan. It refers to the beast that rose up from the sea (it may have had multiple heads) and given power by Satan, so it can't be Satan. I think it represented the bad/evil in man because 666 is a human number.

Some say 666 represents the unholy trinity of the devil (father), the anti-christ (son) and the unholy ghost. Which means 6 would represent the devil/Satan.

666 being attributed to the devil/Satan directly, or the anti-christ, is largely something that has sprung up because of popular culture in books and films, especially The Omen. But this isn't the case in the source material of the bible.

reply

Maybe you didn't get the memo, but there's very real question now whether 666 is even the right number at all. Of course, I mean the number in the text since there is no actual antichrist or anything else described in that delusional screed known as Revelations.

reply

I did get the memo and know about the number itself being called into question, much like everything else in that book of stories should be. But that felt like a whole different discussion and it's why I used non-definitive terms like 'may or may not' and 'some say'. I wouldn't want to attribute any type of accuracy to that book. 

I apologize for the unwarranted snark.

reply

Hahaha! I didn't get any snark from your post, so no worries. I simply took it that you were being informative, as I hope I was.

Civility on the IMDB????  I hope no one reports you!!!

What we got here is... failure to communicate!

Wait...so, you mean I've been killing I mean PROFILING people born in June '66 for no reason??

Baaahahahahahaha! Good one. 😂

I don't do signatures. ^_^

reply

What? I didn't write this trivia. I just took it out because it was random, had nothing to do with the movie and is not even accurate. Also, it is funny. It reminds me of that Arnie movie where it's the end of days because we are in 1999 OR 666. :O

reply

OIC, sorry about that (didn't see the quotation marks). I agree with you, the trivia is totally random. Like saying, "There were 6 cameras used, the director scratched his left butt cheek 6 times and I fell asleep 6 times watching this movie, 666! Wow and how amazing, lol.

Sorry again mate, cheers

reply

666 is not the number of Satan, but of the "Beast" - an allegorical representation of the final of a line of "evil" empires that will culminate in the battle of Armageddon and the return of Jesus. The Bible describes it as a "human" number which may or may not refer to a gematric (Hebrew numerology)connection to the leader of this final empire who is oft described as being the "anti-Christ" (also not Satan). If you believe in that stuff;)

I think this means Half Life 6 is confirmed.

Had a similar reaction after reading this

I agree whole-heartedly with the OP. It is shocking to me how many people don't know the difference between trivia and "nonsensical coincidences that only make sense in your clearly addled brain."

It's not just this film. More and more of IMDB content is being written by dunderheads who think they have something of value to add. Many of the "goofs" are just plot points or elements the goof writer was too dim witted to grasp. Plot synopses are written by people who must have been watching the film with their eyes crossed and drool running out of their gaping mouths.

This is fast becoming the Idiots Movie DataBase.

We need the ability to flag moronic content for review by someone with an IQ at least approaching triple digits.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

reply

I agree as well. I often find the trivia section for most movies entertaining and informative, especially for older and classic films. But this was pathetic. That last spoiler entry about the fireplace poker wasn't even coherent.

I'm glad someone else has taken note of the current sad state of affairs, namely that much of the recent IMDb 'trivia' has become a random collection of factoids, ranging from the mildly uninteresting to the mind-numbingly banal, with the most tenuous connections to the actual film - however, the current 'trivia' for Regression takes it to a whole new level and the IMDb 'mods' should really use it as textbook examples of what not to include in the trivia section:

Here are a few examples:

"Emma Watson and Rachel Weisz are British actresses" - that is not trivia, it is just a useless fact that has no bearing on anything - you could simply list the nationality of every actor in the film for that matter.

"Regression (2015) marks Alejandro Amenábar's return to the thriller genre with which he began his career back in 1996." - again, simply a banal statement of facts.

"Emma Watson previously starred with David Thewlis in the Harry Potter series." - at the point I read this, I had almost lost the will to live - again, not 'trivia' - just another useless and uninteresting factoid.

"Regression was directed by Alejandro Amenábar, Alejandro Amenábar is a director of films, films are made using cameras..." - OK, I made the last one up ;)

"Emma Watson previously starred with David Thewlis in the Harry Potter series."

I guess that is trivia.

It's that man again!!

You can post on Trivia and correct items there. Any IMDB user can.
