Ending...

Loved the movie but the ending felt kinda rushed. I would have preferred to hear a final conversation between them before "riding into the sunset".

I thought the ending was fine. But if I had to write dialogue for a final conversation, it might go like this.

M. Why are you here? What changed?

S. I did. I finally realized that what you love in life can be taken away in an instant. Sometimes you get it back. Sometimes it's gone forever. When you find love, you can't ever push it away.

******************************************************
"Nothing personal. Your name just happened to come up."

reply

That would have been a bit verbose for the characters in the film, don't you think?

I would have preferred an additional scene before the last one, too, but it would have likely just consisted of Sieger and Marc looking at each other and starting to smile.

reply

Dialogue is not always spoken because our actions and expressions can speak louder. I would've liked just an extra scene where Siege arrives with his motorcycle and just stares at Mark, they both awkwardly laugh and that's it, the music starts to play Marc hops on the motorcyle and they leave.

reply

In my mind it would go something like this:

Sieger descends the bike in front of Marc's house and sees Marc with his family in front enjoying some popsicles. S approaches looking a bit nervous but determined.

Marc notices him coming towards them. Stands up to meet S.

S: "I know what I want..." (looks directly at Marc with yearning and decisiveness)

The two exchange looks. Then we got the motorbiking ending part.

There you go...

I got confused why most of people doesent like the ending. But for me it was like a normal ending. Though im expecting that the two will go on separate ways. which I think more realistic that seeing them together in the mototrcyle.

Watched this for the first time last night. It was a good ending but I agree with the original poster. It would just have been nice to just see some kind of re-union between the two characters before they ride away together.

Sadly then "what changed?", "I did" dialogue has already been used in Shelter.

Great movie though

reply

I was hoping for a confession of love from Siegler then they kiss and the enddd

reply

if they went separate ways that would have been a sad ending

reply

I liked it exactly this way. It would have felt annoyingly sugarcoated if everything was resolved. Sieger decided to go for his feelings and that's the start of a whole new story. It will probably still be hard to tell their family, friends and teammates about them, but they're up to face it.
Watching the film, I was a bit afraid, that this was either going to end badly, or the fairy tale way, both of which would really have spoilt this beautiful film for me.

reply

Absolutely agree with lysander-7. It ended perfectly. The imagined dialogue above would have been too cheesy and on-the-nose. You don't necessarily need a lot of words to communicate how you're feeling. And we don't really need to see more of it here. We get the picture.

agree with both of you

I thought the ending was effective.

Perhaps they had a conversation. Perhaps Seiger apologized. But showing that wasn't necessary.

We got to see what really mattered, the boys were together and happy.

reply

We don't even know if the ending is 'real' -- this could very well be Sieger's imagination, where he is seeing himself riding off to sunset with Marc. I think this is a perfect ending -- neither tragic nor fairy-tale-ish, neither completely real nor imaginative ... you can interpret it the way you want to.

reply

Thats an interesting take on the ending. Never thought of that one. From the comments people are making I just get the feeling that as viewers many of them (me included) just hoped for a little more than we were actually given.

People also seem to be concerned that a resolution between the 2 characters would be too long or dialogue heavy. It could have easily been resolved with little of no dialogue. If I may become a writer for a moment this is how I would have done it.

Sieger drives off on the motorbike

The Music starts.

Mark is somewhere (location not that important), its getting dark. The light of the motorbike lights his face. We see Sieger looking regretful. Mark walks over to him, they look at each other for a few moments, then they hug. Or maybe Sieger actively goes to kiss mark without holding back this time.

Bit cheesy perhaps, but job done.

reply

I thought this was a possibility too...but I think it is real because they are on the motorbike and not the bicycle. If it was his memory they would have been on the bicycle in the final scene but you never see Sieg even ride a motorbike until that final scene. Kindof my simplistic reasoning but who knows; I guess I also just want so badly for it to be real.

And from a plot/character development standpoint, Since Sieg finally and confidently goes after what he wants, an actual riding off together would be a wonderful conclusion to the story

reply

I agree that the ending was awfully abrupt and WAY too easy considering what had transpired between Sieg and Marc not 24 hours earlier. Seems unlikely that Marc would have been willing to reconcile so quickly.

reply

I agree. But then again maybe instead of dialog just have them exchange a look before hand, that would say the words form them.

reply

I thought the ending was perfect. It didn't need dialogue. The way the camera moves back to show Marc on the back. It was perfect. Rewatched that scene a few times and had me chocked up each time.

**Accio Harry's virginity!**

For me the ending felt very rushed. It lacked some 10 more minutes. Where Sieg visits Marc and makes him understand with his actions that he's ready to fight for him because he does have strong feelings for Marc. This would play out sort of awkwardly and be without much or any dialogue as Sieg didn't really talk the whole movie.
