If this was a horror movie, it would've been amazing

The big problem is... this seems like a fake documentary, yet nobody is acknowledging it. I feel ripped off, like those "haunting" shows on TV.

Tell me this was a mockumentary and I'll change my mind. The reconstitutions are amazingly well done and I haven't been that scared in a while.

Yup. If this was at least a real documentary I would have rated it higher than a two. If they were going to use actors why not just make it a horror film? Makes no sense to me.

reply

On the contrary, the fact that it's real makes it so much scarier than any horror film could ever be.

reply

Except it's not real at all...

Denying other people's experiences of reality is a real classy thing to do.

is this a quote from charles manson?

reply

No, it's sarcasm.

I mean that this movie is fiction from A to Z with actors reading the lines. The sickness is real, that's for sure, my roommate has been living it for many years.

This movie was made to cash in on this sickness, and it's disgusting.

I think what he is trying to say is that he believes it's presented as a real documentary (about a disorder that is very real) but that the people and stories in it aren't. Or that they took a story with a real basis (several people around the world have the same sleep disorder) and embellished some parts heavily (the guy's girlfriend waking up and seeing a red eyed cat on her chest while he's having his "vision" or whatever). I suspect that's what happened in the movie Catfish (2010), for instance.
I wondered this myself. That's what I really liked about this movie. It doesn't say, "This is definitely all real and has a supernatural basis," it kind of leaves you to decide. I don't think it is but I almost wish it were... Life could use a little more spice for me sometimes.

The "acting" was a combination of actual people being interviewed, and some actors doing reenactments of the experiences that they're describing.
