Looked like a good movie until.. *No Spoilers*

The movie looked like it was going to me a FANTASTIC movie until I saw Kristen Stewart in it.
I just can't enjoy a movie with her in it.

Does anyone else out there agree with me at all?

Personally, you are going to reject, what has been described as fine and tender
acting, based on some idiotic notion of performance you saw years ago?
How sad for you.

reply

Your loss. She's awesome and the movie looks good.

reply

No I don't agree with you at all. I enjoyed the movie and she was great in it.

reply

I'm with you. She is the most overrated actor in H-wood.

We have so much in common. We both love soup and snow peas.

Likewise, Kristen Stewart impresses in a handful of floating sequences as a troubled student, and beautifully navigates what could have been merely a preachy monologue on contemporary disconnectedness. Despite the contrivances (including a random undermining sequence featuring her character self-abusing, as if we have to witness it first hand for good measure), Stewart manages to be one the most emotionally compelling characters.

Please... you would never know about this movie or even be on this board if it wasn't for Kristen.

I've only watched one trailer, where she reads a total of 5-6 lines. They are horribly read. She simply cannot act. I do not understand why she gets hired.

It's always going to be true that someone won't like an actor or an actress, while at the same time, other folk adore them and are ardent fans.

I wouldn't worry about being agreed with or disagreed with on matters of taste. It's as useful as knowing whether people who have the ability to choose agree that banana ice cream is better than pistachio ice cream, you know?

You can only get a predictable set of answers:
Some agree.
Some disagree.
Either way, on this board, even an overwhelming majority of answers in agreement, is not an accurate sampling for a survey question. It's meaningless.

One way of verifying an entertainer's popularity, is to notice if they keep getting hired, if their films are a success. Like, in Stewart's case, she's won the French version of the Oscar - huge critical acclaim, while in America, she was the female lead in a huge, commercial success. She's been nominated for many awards, as well.

So, objectively speaking, Stewart is great at what she does. Subjectively, we are each free to experience her however we do.

Well put.
I enjoyed Anesthesia very much. Great cast and interesting characters. Kristen Stewart played the role they hired her for. She was struggling.
I have thought about how I would play Sophie, what would I do to show such distress, agnst...shrug...not that different. Shaking my head while biting my lip I wonder, how else would one play her??

Probably the best summary I've come across at IMDb boards regarding Ms. Stewart. Well stated.

Rest in peace, Roger Ebert. You were the best.

I didnt like the movie, and I dont think shes a good actress. But, I do agree 99% with your post. The only thing I might disagree with, and its not even something you wrote, more like implied, is that good actors make films successful. There are thousands of actors, singers etc with "limited" talent who are famous and successful, cause they happen to be really good looking, charming, scandalous or other side reasons.

it's not possible to.
