Why was this marketed as a stoner comedy?

Not only is this film hardly comedic, but he wasn't even a stoner? He mainly just dealt with panic attacks? The marketing makes no sense painting it as a Pineapple Express-type "stoner comedy".

Yeah, I totally missed this one the first time around. Just watched it knowing nothing about it. Had a great time. It'll probably end up like an M. Night film, really popular a few years down the road when people forget they were ripped off by poor genre marketing the first time.

Not a stoner??? He's constantly smoking a joint...I also thought there was a lot of comedy to it!

Some people just get way too serious around here 

What's your definition of a "stoner"? He smokes weed constantly through most of the movie. His only friend in the movie is his drug dealer. Multiple characters even literally call him a "stoner", including his girlfriend. Did you see an edited version that cut out all of the weed references or something? That must have been a pretty short viewing.

....when it simply isn't funny? I don't know. Pineapple Express is simply hilarious compared to this drivel.🐭

Being labelled a "stoner film" is what made me stay away from it at first, but when a friend told me it was more of an action comedy with brainwashing and mind control story elements I gave it a chance and love it!
