Slave Advertisements

http://www.plattscsd.org/library/library/htmls/runaway_slaves_resources.htm
So, I thought that I'd share this. I happened to come upon to these runaway slave advertisements and reading them is incredibly eerie.
I especially got goosebumps when the owners are giving descriptions on how one slave just recieved a severe lashing and has the marks to prove it and how another slave is male, talks quickly and is "handsome", or how one young slave just escaped and thinks he's a freeman because his father was one, etc.......
The middle section marked "Runaway Slave Advertisements: 1745-1775" is what I'm referring to.

Seems to me very few Females ran according to these postings. Having kids to care for made that A excruciating choice.

There is always the story of Margaret Garner who ran away. Toni Morrison's book, "Beloved" was inspired on that incident.

If you care to read about her, here's the link: http://www.blackpast.org/aah/margaret-garner-incident-1856
