Ridiculous

This movie is out in 6 months and it doesn't even have a title yet. They just announced or shall I say, Ben Affleck just announced the title to his new Batman film and that movie is a year and a half away. I'm feeling like they will either change the release date or just rush things with this film and it will suck horribly.

The trailer for The Wolverine didn't premiere until the movie was about 4 months out. Real talk though. I would rather Mangold take his time to make sure his vision comes together. If it has to be pushed back then so be it. But putting that aside. I know this trailer and marketing campaign is being withheld due to Doctor Strange.

If I was an executive at Fox, I would want people to get the Doctor Strange hype out if their systems before I start to ramp up marketing my own film that has to appeal to the same viewer base. Early marketing does nothing for the general populace, who will watch these comic book films in theaters. The only people that it effects are the fandom. The fandom wants a title, a trailer, a poster, and what have you because it drives conversation, debates, theories etc. The general populace don't give a sh!t. Once that first trailer drops they either decide if they like what they see or they don't, and BOOM. A ticket sale can be lost just like that. A smaller marketing window also mean that Fox can make a stronger albeit, shorter marketing push till release.

Call me crazy, but this approach makes perfect sense to me even though as a fan I am anxious to see the trailer.

1) Deadpool's over the top, intensive, subversive, viral marketing fit with his character the same way a bright red suit does. Wolverine's quiet, loner character does not lend well to (a) his original comic outfit or (b) a bombastic marketing campaign.

2) Recently X-Men movies have given away too much before releases except for (a) First Class and (b) The Wolverine which were 2 excellent movies. I like the mystery and not seeing stills from every day on set like Spiderman or the very early Doctor Strange teases. [fyi - i am not a marvel hater, i love most of those movies - just using those as examples]

Take your time Mangold!

I agree with not releasing too much information but a teaser trailer wouldn't hurt. New York Comic Con is this week so they might show it there.

Hugh's latest brief interview when he was in Hollywood for the MPTF charity event hosted by George Clooney was also playfully evasive even about confirmation on the possible involvement of Mr. Sinister --

Everyone is tight-lipped...and that adds to the anxiety level of fanboys! Unlike APOCALYPSE, where we were bombarded with all types of publicity ( which eventually promised more than what the film actually delivered, sad to say)-- this movie is pinning its hopes on the director's cinematic vision, the actors's strong and memorable portrayals, and all the other elements to give us a memorable WOLVERINE sendoff movie.

What if the title is as simple as just WOLVERINE??

Maybe what they may want to give us is an elemental look at who and what this clawed mutant is all about ? Maybe hyping him too much early on is not the way to re-introduce us to the core Wolverine character ( who may actually be hiding in the early part of the movie, if suggestions from OLD MAN LOGAN is to be believed)! We may see a movie that so strikes to the core of the character that by itself the movie will be one of the best surprises in many a long time!

I am not going to get anxious anymore that the movie has not been hyped early on -- sometimes too much hype may indicate that there is something fundamentally flawed that the hype wants to gloss over. I think what James Mangold said about wanting a film that delivers in the long run is what I want to believe!

Because I don't want them to. We are working on making a good film. Plenty of time for hype soon enough. Breathe.

Be patient -- that may not sound like Wolverine himself -- but sometimes waiting for that eventual "SNIKT!" is worth all the wait 

End of hype from me 

PS: I agree -- we are all going to watch, very eagerly, what surprises the NY ComicCon may have in store for all of us 
