Seems to be all over the place

I am watching the first episode prior to a quick segue into the just recording second.

But I am losing the will to live. The plot seems all over the place and this jumping from one unrelated (at the moment) scene to the next is requiring a concentration that the storyline is not encouraging me to muster.

Perhaps if it was in Swedish it would be more gripping.

Is it worth hanging on in there - I am far from impressed.

OK I'll move on to Part 2

Stick with it. I am a big John Simm fan and becoming a Craig Parkinson fan but this did not gell with me first ep. The second is better plus I am all over the place as a Mancunian trying to identify some of the areas filmed in! I only identified Piccadilly train station and Salford Central train station specifically and not until they showed the Trafford Park sign did I recognise the area! I am relying on John not to have chosen anything mediocre :))

Does anyone know where in Manchester Benedict Wong is from. I am convinced from his date of birth that it is Higher Broughton but if anyone knows for certain can you tell me please?

When I first read your comment, I thought you were joking, but have sadly come to the conclusion that you are serious. Firstly, if the complexity of British television drama is too much for you, perhaps the American kind, where there are usually fifteen episodes and ad naseum series, would give you more time to understand the plot. Secondly, are you Swedish? If not, what has this got to do with it? Or perhaps you just like sub-titles?

reply

So I conclude you came on here to insult someone. Obviously the only opinion you care about is your own - the rest of us have to agree with you. I expect some people will understand the remark about Swedish - clearly you are not one of them. Enjoy your superiority I am sure it makes you happy.

reply

No insult intended and for the life of me I cannot see where the insult was - sarcasm yes, but insult no. Obviously you are a little thin skinned and yes I did understand the "Swedish" comment, I don't think you understood mine. Nor by the way was I asking anybody to agree with me. I must actually apologise though for my generalisation on American TV drama, there are some very good shows, three recent examples would be: Fargo, True Detective, and The Following. All somewhat complex, I wonder if you watched them and were able to follow them ok?

reply

Trust me - it is rudeness not sarcasm. Your sharply honed wit is a figment of your own imagination.

Oakcourt--I too was looking at the various locations in which they were filming in Manc.

I'd have to watch again, but did you find it jarring that one second he's on that blue wrought iron foot bridge with "Trafford" on it but then the next scene he's in Piccadilly Station?

Where is that bridge?

Were we to presume he jumped a train then from Salford into Piccadilly?

If not. That's a helluva run!!!

reply

The bridge is in Trafford Park a very large busy industrial area which borders Salford Quays and little public transport runs along that stretch, maybe the odd independent bus or circular service run by Stagecoach buses but it's not frequent. The only thing he would be able to jump would be a tram and he'd would still have quite a run to that as that blue Trafford sign is not even close to the tram tracks. The nearest tram stop at a guess would be Media City/Imperial War Museum but that would be a fair old run.

I don't get the train too frequently but am sure the various ones that run through Eccles and Salford (Trafford Park's immediate neighbours at my end) don't even vaguely touch Trafford Park on their route through. It didn't strike me as jarring initially I was just too focused on knowing where Marcus was - clearly you are more observant and intelligent than me!

The series is only 3 eps though so they probably don't have time/budget for a big drawn out chase scene!

In the first episode, there was a very random 2-3 second scene, just showing a road. It was chew valley road in greenfield, saddleworth. It showed a pub called the Wellington.

In the third episode, when he was hiding in a bus stop. That was manchester road (a635) in greenfield.

When he went to a chemist, that was new street in uppermill, saddleworth.

reply

Trust me, if I wanted to insult you it would be a lot more obvious.

reply

I love this comment. Spot on.

reply

seems the insult was you telling him he doesn't understand the plot, but he does. it's just all over the place. personally I love shows that stray as long as it's written well but plenty of people don't and it's almost never because they can't comprehend it.

are you joking about The Following? i can't think of a better example to show that complex doesn't automatically mean it's good.

reply

Still enjoying The Following and Kevin Bacon in a good guy role for a change, but I may start to agree with you after episode 105.

your title is misleading i agree with you it seems to be all over the place in the scene where he jumps of the bridge he's near Trafford park then in the next scene he jumps into Manchester Piccadilly on foot it would take him like over an hour to get there so there should be another hour of john Simm running away from the police.
anyways its a good show so far but its been filmed all over Manchester so anybody from Manchester or familiar with it is gonna notice he's bouncing all over the city lolz

reply

Thanks for the answer.

I've been all over the various bridges to and from the Lowry etc., and have walked all over the Quays area, but never encountered that beautiful blue wrought iron bridge. So wondered.

It said "Trafford" of course, so even though I could not place it exactly, anything with Trafford on it must be quite a distance from Piccadilly train station--it's walkable theoretically of course, I've only trammed it, but you'd have to be a serious runner to run it that fast.

I was laughing though imagining him jumping a tram. If he did that he'd probably be moving zero-miles per hour the way they absolutely crawl and stop through Manc at times! LOL Not the best escape plan, that.
