The truth about the class of 92

You brits have to realize that these players were only good when measured by a british level. On a world scale they were terrible as always evidenced by how poorly England did in the soccer World cup even with these guys around. So yeah, on a british scale I guess you could say these guys were better than average, but when you start adding players from other countries these guys fall ridiculously short. And don't get me started about the level of current english soccer players...sheesh...you'll find better players from Iceland.

well the summary explains that it is mostly about how they affected football in britain. not necessarily saying that they dominated worldwide.

Firstly the fact you call it soccer should pretty much disprove your point.

Next, take Beckham, who pretty much singlehandedly got us to the World Cup in 2002...look at the teams he's played for and the respective titles he's won there...Man united, Real Madrid, AC Milan, PSG...now tell me how a terrible player can play for those clubs, people focus too much on the off field beckham to remember he was also a hell of a player.

scholes - rated by many as one of the top CM, even rated by Zizou himself.

giggs - he was welsh so your World Cup argument doesn't really work here. Anybody who says ryan giggs was a terrible player needs their life assessing

Butt - wouldn't put him as world class but a solid player much better than average

Gary Neville - rated as one of the premier leagues all time best right backs

Phil Neville - I probably would agree with you here, only really came alive at Everton.

Your argument proves you know very little about football, or you are a troll, either way you call it soccer, so stick to whatever pathetic sport you watch instead.

the Premier league is a very multicultural league, the top players from all over the world play in this league, and the above have won it numerous times.

Not to mention the treble in 99...so ask yourself, how does that happen?

P.s

I'm not a united fan so no bias here

If you take a look at previous posts from the OP, he (she?) seems to dislike everything, and say so in fairly offensive terms.

Surely the point of the film, as you say, is to show how a group of (fairly) local boys served to help one team dominate English and European football for a generation. The England reference is irrelevant.

reply

Pretty sure Sir Alex response sums up your entire premise....they were United players. This was not an attempt to say they dominated the World Cup. Local boys who lead their premier team to an extremely rare treble. It's a shame you missed the point of this great movie.

It's football you poxy yank toss.

The OP literally has no idea what he's talking about. Ignorance is bliss though I guess.

(I'm not a Man Utd supporter, by the way, but a truth supporter)

The Nevilles and Nicky Butt will only go down in history because of their connection to Beckham, Scholes and Giggs.

Of those three, Scholes and Giggs will go down in history as two of of the world's greatest midfielders. And Beckham was a brilliant player too. And he also just happens to be the most famous player ever.

The footballing world knows just how good those 3 were.

Sorry OP, but you are totally wrong on this.

Gary Neville is a quality RB he doesnt need Becks and the others to show how good he is in his position so dont rob him that.

Giggs and Scholes will be recognized as two of the greatest MF? You do realized that David Beckham finished 2nd twice for Fifa Player of the Year honor? He held his own in star studed Real Madrid squad and pretty much single handedly beat Greece 2001 to qualify for the world cup. Giggs is my all time favorite United player as a Manu fan, but Becks is in that level I would even say he's better than Scholes as an all around player.

You are almost as ignorant as the thread starter.

reply

And you think Champions League is not a "world" competition? It is funny when Americans talk about football, or excuse you "soccer".

P.S. I am not Britain -or European for that matter- But every culture has football as the best sport in it other than USA and Canada maybe.

reply

Ahem.....I have to revisit this thread after the tragic events of the recent European football championships in France. You'll notice that I pointed out back in 2014, that you would find better soccer players from Iceland. This is now even proven empirically by the fatherly beating the english soccer team got in the hands of Iceland. The english soccer team had all their stars at their disposal, but their skills amounted to nothing on the international level. The original point still stands, yes the class of 92 (or 2016) players might have been good, but they were only good if you look at their skills on a british level.
