I feel like when they wrote up the story they imagined Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the father role but had to settle on someone who looks similar

Lol! That's the best apology I've EVER read on the IMDb boards.
I'll also say, you'd have to be stoned to think that chosing Brendan Gleeson for the role was settling ;) I get it though; besides the obvious age difference, I can see the similarities and they're both stellar character actors - two if the best I can think of.

Hoffman could never pull off their dialect properly. I don't know exactly what this band of savages were supposed to be. But something like Pikey's. Or else Irish Tinkers or Travelers.

Could have used sub-titles. You would have a better chance of understanding a drunken Scotsman with no teeth.
