Absolutism & Preaching to the Choir Don't Help....

The first 30-minutes or so of this film are intriguing...and occasionally infuriating...as representatives from various environmental organizations seem to stonewall in response to straightforward questions about the environmental effects of animal agriculture.

But instead of focusing on that issue...the problem of corporate environmentalism's hypocritically selective attention...the filmmakers instead plow headlong into vegan absolutism, almost guaranteeing a switching of channels in the homes of folks who might otherwise have been receptive to at least a few of the film's core messages.

The turning point happens when one of the interviewee from an ocean conservation group talks about "over-fishing," by which, he coyly adds, "I mean fishing." In other word, ANY fishing is bad.

That's a mic-dropping moment, and if your making a film, that kind of absolutist language does the exact opposite of whatever is is you're trying to achieve. What have you accomplished when your film repels the majority of folks you'd hoped to convince?

Who's left in the audience, at the end of this film, who isn't already in perfect vegan alignment?
