Remake of Les Choristes / The Chorus?
When I read the synopsis, it seemed pretty obvious, but IMDb doesn't connect the movies at all.
To be clear: I saw the French movie Les Choristes twice; I did not see Boychoir yet.

The chorus is about a back up teacher in the 1940's in France who risk everything including his job to save a bunch of troubled kids through musics.
The Choir is about a troubled boy who is sent to a professional choir school after his mother passing.
Of course theer are similarity regarding the trouble youth thing but if you look at most films about Choir boys you will find that theme in there...
