My review of The Choir

A very circumspect and fair analysis, I think. Thank you for your insights. Unfortunately (but "predictably"), this film is clearly less interesting to the American audience for whom it was intended than to the British. It has flown below the radar into oblivion here, despite its stellar cast.

I happened to be visiting England the summer that Joanna Trollope's book "The Choir" was a best seller. Suspecting that the American book trade would nevertheless put it on the spike as though it never existed, I bought three copies before returning home; and good thing, too, for so it proved. Our provinciality in these matters (ensured by the powers-that-be, whoever they are and for reasons best known to themselves) is beyond comprehension. If it weren't for the BBC's miniseries based thereon, and PBS's broadcast, we would still be unaware of this passionate masterpiece.
