Had Tom Cruise been the lead, this could easily have been adapted as the story for Top Gun 2. They could have expanded to show Maverick getting back in the jet and going on an actual mission, maybe even blowing away some drones.

Something about this drone business doesn't have the same honor and glory as an actual fighter jet with a real pilot. I know they were targetting terrorists, but imagine our own skies being filled with stealthy enemy drones like this. It almost seems like Terminator.

Except Top Gun is about the Navy and this about the Air Force. The Army, Navy, and Marine Corps all let enlisted personnel, who are not pilots, fly their UAVs. Only the Air Force takes fully trained combat-ready fighter pilots out their aircraft and force them to operate drones from an air conditioned bunker. This movie accurately depicts how rediculous that is.
