Question about the ending (expect spoilers, obviously)

So the two brothers are holed up, naked (which was odd, since surely their clothes would keep them warm). Gummi was breathing beforehand. Are we to assume they died in the end as it was left hanging.

Yes, I think so. I wasn't entirely convinced by the ending, which I thought rather weakened a good film.

I watched the extras last night, including a Q&A with the director and the inference was that they died.

but why? Initially I thought that it took the tragedy of the loss of all those special sheep to get them to talk again, and be brothers again. Then I came on here only to learn that they both froze to death. 

Kiddi was trying to warm up Gummi, and the idea is to have the maximum amount of skin-to-skin contact to transfer heat.

I think with no sheep, they accepted that death was the only solution. 40 years of living apart, they come together towards their deaths. Also, there was no way they could ride back to the comforts of their house. They probably died after some hours.

I viewed the ending as somewhat of a "back to the womb" type metaphor. Despite their difference, they couldn't leave each other, needed to stay in contact and in many ways, had forgotten the reasons they were mad. One brother was slighted, we can assume the older brother and the younger was keeping an oath to his mother.

Interesting ending, if a bit obvious in the symbolic department. I enjoyed the film overall, but am not sure how much it really hung together. Just saw it for the first time last night. Surprised there aren't more comments here.

I assume that at least Gummi died. Kiddi might have lived, but his chances are pretty low, too. It really depends on how long the storm lasts. Snow tunnels can be super warm. The bare skin thing is to share body heat. Skin to skin is warmer than having a layer of cloth between. It's the reason mittens are warmer than gloves.

Now the sheep, they are probably alive for the time being. Sheep can survive a while in snow, they huddle together and have wool coats. But if they are trapped under drifts or can't find their way to a safer spot after the storm for the winter they will probably die. I imagine the dog is with them.

The ending was okay, but I wasn't really satisfied with it either.

Clothes are warm but human bodies are warmer.

No, they live.

They reconcile, that's supposed to the ending.

Good ending.

Exactly what I thought. They lost the sheep but found (back to) each other.
