Is this a fetish movie?

Because frankly that's the only way I can make sense of it. Fainting possessed schoolgirls and incest aren't exactly my cup of tea but hey, all's fair in porn and war.

reply

gay sex is hardly a fetish these days. It is almost a requirement in every third movie or television program if you want a green light for your project.

I want to see something unusual like the girl falling in love with her vacuum cleaner or toaster or something. Now that might be unusual maybe

This stuff is just... YAWN

reply

Like I said, it's more the possessed schoolgirls losing consciousness all the time and incest that would qualify as a fetish to me. The latter thing only took a minor role in the movie so it's more of a shoutout to a certain niche audience. The movie seems to be mainly about fainting schoolgirls. Which I didn't know was a thing for people but it's not that much of a leap.

reply

Did you ever see CRACKS with Eva Green or Winslet's first film (one of them anyway) HEAVENLY CREATURES? Those were good school girl films. The school girl was secondary a bit in those films though.

reply

Again, it's not my cup of tea. Plus, yes, I've even seen Stacy (2001) just for the heck of it but that doesn't change the fact that fainting and/or possessed school girls are a weird thing to obsess over.

reply

Curiously, who's obsessing?

I think the story is told from the perspective of the author's dysfunctional youth and the mass hysteria (actual phenomenon) that she helped instigate.

So this is at least partly an autobiographical movie?

Well why didn't you say something sooner?

Woman with objects fetish marries Eiffel Tower
A woman who has a bizarre fetish for inanimate objects has married the Eiffel Tower.

By Aislinn Simpson12:43PM BST 04 Jun 2008

Erika La Tour Eiffel, 37, a former soldier who lives in San Francisco, has been in love with objects before. Her first infatuation was with Lance, a bow that helped her to become a world-class archer, she is fond of the Berlin Wall and she claims to have a physical relationship with a piece of fence she keeps in her bedroom.
But it is the Eiffel Tower she has pledged to love, honour and obey in an intimate ceremony attended by a handful of friends.
She has changed her name legally to reflect the bond.
She revisits the massive structure as part of a documentary on Five on Objectum-Sexual women. There are around 40 people in the world who have declared themselves OS, all of them women and many of them also Asperger's Syndrome sufferers.
The OS term was first coined by Eija-Riitta Berliner-Mauer, a 54-year-old woman who has been "married" to the Berlin Wall for 29 years.
Before returning to Paris for her first wedding anniversary, Mrs La Tour Eiffel visits the Berlin Wall, where her affection for what many Germans see as a symbol of repression leads to an uncomfortable encounter with a member of the staff at the Checkpoint Charlie museum.
"I just don't understand how some people can bring someone into the world like a child - an object - and then not love them," she said.
She explained that she feels an affinity with the wall: "I am the Berlin Wall. Hate me, try to break me apart, but I will still be here, standing."
She blames her upbringing for her condition. She claims to have been molested by her half-brother and abandoned by her parents to various foster homes.
"If I am the way I am today because of everything that happened to me, then I'm alright with it," she said. "I wouldn't change who I am now."
Jerry Brooker, from New York State, one of the psychotherapists interviewed for the documentary, said that OS women were motivated by a need for control.
"Someone who falls in love with objects can control that relationship on their own terms," he said. "Their objects will not let them down. That is extremely attractive for a person who is otherwise often desperately lonely."

No, pervs who are into 'schoolgirl porn' will have no use for this intricate, psychological drama (by the way, nobody is demonically possessed in this film--it's about a 'folie à deux' or 'shared madness'). Yes it deals with sex to some degree (a subject teenagers have been known to have an interest in), but it is more about the psychological condition of the girls in the boarding school, particularly the lead's. If you liked 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' and 'Heavenly Creatures', I highly recommend this surreal, existential film.

reply

I tend towards the pervy rather than the artistic. I mean the film not me of course.

reply

Yes, I liked Heavenly Creatures a lot. I haven't seen Picnic at Hanging Rock. I had seen this film though and I just didn't get very much out of it. At the end of the day, I was just left with the feeling that if there is something to get about this film then I didn't succeed in doing that.

When you say "folie à deux" in this context, I first think of Mais ne nous délivrez pas du mal (1971). If you haven't seen that one, you might enjoy it.

reply

No offense. But I am thinking this movie might be a little outside your typical viewing habits. I am basing that solely on the movies you reference in this thread. I imagine your viewing history involves little more than teenage girl zombie movies.

I enjoy the teenage girl zombie movie as much as the next guy but this is not one of those films. This is a physiological drama about friendship and repressed feelings and the difficulty mothers and daughters can have communicating.

I think you might enjoy Contracted:

or Asian School Girls

enjoying 'schoolgirl girl' porn doesnt make you a perv

Schoolgirls and incest is definitely my cup of tea!
