My thoughts on this.

Described as a cross between Dead Man's Shoes and Fight Club, I eagerly sat down to watch Just Jim: a surreal black British comedy.

I was hooked from the beginning.
The musical score was fantastic and the protagonist of the story, Jim, was a likeable character cast in the same vein as Napoleon Dynamite's offbeat dead pan delivery.

The film was going well until they introduced another character. The worst supporting actor I have ever seen in my life. He did not belong in this film at all. He had obviously modelled himself on the sneering, chain smoking Goodfellas era Ray Liotta and his clothes were taken directly from Tyler Durden in the afformentioned Fight Club.

This guy ruined every second of the film with his presence. The other characters interacted with him in ways that just didn't make sense, and after pausing the film to get myself a cold drink, I pressed play and felt I was watching a different film, it just did not compute.

That's not to say there weren't any stand out scenes, it's just that
what
started off with so much promise, ended almost like a bad parody of better films and their clichés all of which left me with no answers to questions I can't be ar**d asking.

I wanted to love it. I didn't.

It's very likely that Dean was a figment of Jim's fertile imagination. As almost the whole film is shot from the POV of Jim, it does make you question the reliability of his character and what exists in and outside his reality.
