Jane Doe and the mother?

Maybe I'm overthinking this but I feel like the mother's backstory added a lot to the tragedy of Tommy's death. He discusses how guilty he feels about his wife's death (presumably by suicide) and blames himself for missing the warning signs and being unable to see/feel her pain. I saw his pact with Jane Doe as more than just a sacrifice for his son, in a way he was able to experience the pain that his wife was feeling. Just like Jane Doe, the mother experiences unbearable pain that she can't seem to escape but from the outside it's nearly impossible to see. It seems like they included plenty of other references to the mothers death throughout the film. For example, someone mentioned in a previous thread that Tommy called his wife Ray because she was like a ray of sunshine and the song that keeps popping up talks about letting the sun shine in. Like I said I may be overthinking it so please let me know if you have other thoughts/theories!

I agree, there are defietly reference to the death of he's wife, Tommy feels guilty for missing the signal and as you state her emotional pain is somehow like the physical pain Jane Doe is still suffering. Also there is a obvious reference between the song that she keep using to taunt them and the nickname he used for he's wife.
However I'm unsure if he's sacrificing himself had anything to do with the guilt for he's wife, i saw it more like the last atempt of a disperate man to save he's son.
I personally would have use another route to help my son then a silent pact with a wich.
