I think a lot of you are being unfair on your judgements

Let me start by saying that you have every right not to like something, but I just think many of you are being very unfair and biased.

First, many of you clearly have some sort of fixation with Katherine Heigl. I honestly don't care whether or not you like her, because that's subjective, but please don't already have a pre-determined mindset on someone. It's the same with Kristen Stewart's case. She has one infamous role and immediately, every role afterwards is doomed. Suddenly people have magical powers and automatically tell that the movie is going to suck and that Kristen will be horrible, even without seeing the trailer. Just the fact that the name is attached. Wow. Great superpower you have there. lol Granted, I know that she has a bad rep. of being a "bitch" off camera and hard to work with, but is not to say the film itself is bad. Differentiate between the two. You may dislike the actor, but still like the film. I personally think Katherine did well in this film. She didn't do particularly amazing, but she was fairly convincing. I also thought there was some chemistry on camera. I don't know why some of you think otherwise, but oh well.

Second, I personally didn't think this movie was about the "gay relationship couple." It was a love story, yes, but a love story between a daughter and her family. People need to realize there are different types of love/romance stories: Romance fairytale and Love of something else (such as family or sibling bond and whatnot). To me, this was about family love. It didn't bother me much that there wasn't as much screen time with the couple.

Third, "This coming out is done to death and outdated." Okay. This "done to death" argument is not a good one. This is just a cheesy family film. Is cheese really that bad? lol If you're really so upset about done-to-death films, then there will be no more films coming out because honestly, every movie has some sort of element that is done to death.
For example.. girl meets boy, they fall in love....YEA. DONE TO DEATH
...Girl meets boy, girl has husband, girl slowly falls in love with boy, dumps her old husband and marries the new boy...YEA DONE TO DEATH. Get my drift? Yet it can still be enjoyable if people just accept it for what it is.
In addition, times may have changed but doesn't mean they still can't do films about "coming out." That most certainly also doesn't mean that cases like this don't happen elsewhere. Take into context what time and location they are in.

Is this film oscar-worthy, not really. Does it deserve all the trash talk it's getting? Honestly, no. I think it's worth at least a one time watch.

Brilliant post.

Actually Katherine Heigl's performance wasn't that bad considering what she had to work with. The actors who had really bad dialogue to work with were the mother, father and sister.
