What's with the grass storyline? Actress was gorgeous who...

I am gay but I kept crushing on the actress who was on about the grass. Lol! I think it's because she was reminding me of my ex-boyfriend's brother in the way she looked. I always had a crush on my ex-boyfriend's brother. LOL! And she looked a lot like him. i was really crushing on that grass lady sort of malcontent sister. But I wasn't crazy about her storyline with the grass. They made her seem kind of bat shyt crazy. That said, I like that she didn't really care about her sister's sexuality.

Much like the grass... She wasn't getting the "Love" she needed to grow/be happy. That's my take on it.

I also viewed it as, She wasnt getting anything from her husband. His only job was to water the grass. he didnt do it and so she finally did. once she did she realized she didnt need him for anything and didnt need to be happy.

Anyway, that is one of the Meryl streeps daughters. People claim they cant act and only get roles because of their mother, but I thought she was great in this and her sister Mamie is awesome in Ricki in the Flash (which does star Meryl Streep, but I think Mamie gives the best performance even though the writers forgot about her character in the second half of the movie)

I agree, the grass storyline didnt fully fit what was going on with the rest of the movie. They could have used the screen time they gave her to better develop Bledal's character.

I think it was the writer trying to be philosophical but ending up sounding cringeworthy and disconnected.

They ask came across like inexperienced nobodies in this film who've never lived a day in their life

Why do they all sound like whiny teenagers in this film?

reply

Honestly the grass storyline was the most interesting part of the movie to me. I was curious if watering it would actually help. Seemed more like it needed a good raking and dethatching first, and of course some fertilizer. Seemed a bit too cold for the water to help at all. I would literally rather watch grass grow than the listen to another argument from that miserable family.

A lot of writers have tried to justify adultery and betrayal over the years. The fact none of them get it right and they all get it wrong over and over again tells you, nobody can put a good spin on adultery.

reply

Where did you get adultery from the grass scene, much less this film? From how I understood it, her husband was neglectful and a bum, not cheating.

reply

I think her husband was just not on the cover of Men's Health magazine.

Adultery was used just as an example. That people try and put a good spin on all kinds of things and it never works.

reply

Exactly what I thought haha. It seemed the writer wanted to use a smart metaphor for the character's unhappy marriage but she overdid it.

I was surprised to find the writer wasn't a young wannabe filmmaker writting her first film.

The writers is it seems a well known, well grounded writer. All she did was take some popular trendy ideas and try to make a film out of it. Hoping people will be desperate to watch a film where people talk about these trendy ideas.

Maybe it was all tongue in cheek and the writer is making fun of the audience.
