The cultural references in the show

Have you noticed that the cultural references that they have in the show are references that a 40 something would be proud of themselves for knowing. They are references that would be new and edgy to a 40 something but aren't really all that fresh and cutting edge. Smart move by the show. I think they're courting the older viewer more than the millennial viewer though.

I actually find a lot of the references to a 40 year old woman completely ridiculous, as they are things that most people I know, have known. The Bombay/Mumbai reference was really stupid, as an adult, she should have been aware of that, they did make a big deal of it all over the world, at the time. Let alone that her daughter went on an exchange to India, she would have looked it up...

I do enjoy the show though, and I definitely agree that they are capturing the 40 year olds more than the young people.

Actually I was referring more to things like 'on fleek' and 'topless tuesday' and being 'woke' and stuff like that.

ahhh gotcha. Yes, I agree. Usually when I realise something is a reference (I don't always- I have no idea what 'woke' means other than the literal sense) I will look it up, because it has no relevance to me otherwise. I don't tend to use those sort of references myself, I am way more of a 90's tragic hahaha
