Release date?

Sean Penn showed the movie to family and friends so it must be totally finished.

So when it will be released? Most of the contenders have a release date, official photos, clips or trailers...

I was hoping for a 2015 release but maybe 2016?

reply

Penn did some reshoots an South Africa about a month ago. So it may be finished nor or almost finished. We don't know who will be the distributor yet so that is why it does not have a release date. I would not be surprised if it is pushed back until 2016. I am looking forward to seeing this film so whenever it is ready I will see it.

reply

I knew about the reshoots, I think it is finished. But you're right. Not having a distributor right now, with the awards season coming in, we are probably looking for a 2016 release date

reply

Penn might be showing it to distributors. But it needs to be in a festival. The AFI Festival is a possibility but I still think it will come out in 2016.

reply

Maybe after breaking up Penn doesn't give a damn about this movie anymore. He lets the producers do whatever they want.

Of course he cares.

Dylan said she joined her Oscar-winning father to see his latest directorial effort, The Last Face, which also stars Theron.

"It's beautiful, my brother [Hopper] is in it," she said. "It's his on-screen debut, he's amazing, and the movie is beautiful. It's my dad's masterpiece. It was great to share that with him and some friends."

I agree with dolcevera. Penn cares very much about the film. I am sure that he and the producers are looking for the right distributor.

reply

Well Dylan said that before the breaking up so. But his kid was in it so i guess he will try to release it.

No, Dylan said that last week which is way after the breakup. She previously said (but after the breakup) that this film was her father's life. I am sure he wants to release it.

reply

Of course he wants to release it!

We are talking about Sean Penn! In a director's chair. Like any good director he must be obsessed about it.

reply

Sad I'm guessing it's 2016. I hope this isn't a sign the film is bad or even average. Wasn't there a screening on the film a few months back in LA? What was that for?

reply

This has to come out next year. Even if it is great it would be foolish to release it this year. There are too many movies already coming out. About a month or so ago I read that Sean Penn's daughter said the he screened the film for some friends and that it was a masterpiece. Maybe he is a perfectionist and is taking a long time in post. Anyone have any info on this film?

reply

nop, nothing :(

reply

January. still waiting for a photo or a release date. Not even a trailer, a *beep* poster at least.

reply

It is said that it is still in post production. But Sean Penn must have other things on his mind - if you know what I mean.

reply

It's been rumored they want it for Cannes. Jay Cassidy said they are finishing it.
This is what Stephane Celerier said on Twitter about the film back in Nov 2015 "Watched in Malibu THE LAST FACE, the new Sean Penn's movie. Phenomenal, so beautiful and deeply moving. The best movie ever for Mars Films."
Very excited and I really don't want them to rush things. Probably there will be a second Oscar for Theron.

reply

This is all good to hear. I can't wait. And perhaps there will be a second Oscar for Senor Bardem as well. Thanks for the info kitty.

reply

Thanks for that update! I wish she could be nominated and Cannes its a great festival.

But will be weird. Charlize was in Cannes for Mad Max: Fury Road with Penn and now she might be with him again there this year. But frankly, I don't care about that they are incredible actors and I hope for a movie with great reviews for Penn, Charlize and Bardem they're insanely good

reply

Yes, I think Cannes would be the best choice too. A few months for the sh!t storm to pass...I hope the Academy won't take any of Penn's extracurricular activities into consideration.
They already have foreign distributors so I think they're just waiting for the right time.If Theron said Penn was able to make the film look like 100 millions dollars movie, then they deserve some gold for not ballooning the budget.

I personally don't think it would be awkward for them. From what I've gathered, they've been secretly back together or at least made amends when Theron went to NYC for the AIDS talk.Fingers crossed!

reply

Definitely hope that it will play at Cannes. And I hope that it gets a US distributor soon.

reply

when did Theron said that? interview?

reply

She talked a bit about the film here

Of “The Last Face,” a drama where Sean directs her, Javier Bardem and Jean Reno, Charlize gushed, “It’s really a beautiful film. What Sean did in the preproduction and in the development process just took the film to another level. He just escalated it, in a sense.
“Sean made the film look like a hundred million dollar movie but that’s not what we had at our disposal. Sean set the bar really high and Javier and I tried to stay with him as much as we possibly could. Something happens to Sean when he starts to work. It’s like a gear up here and you are constantly trying to get up there.”

Martin Hernandez who was nominated for Best Sound Editing at the Oscars for his work on The Revenant said he's gonna keep working on post production for The Last Face after the Oscar.

This is from Twitter
"Sean Penn's THE LAST FACE is Rated R for strong blood violence including disturbing images of war atrocities, language, and brief sexuality."

reply

wow. Thank you so much for that update!

OPEN MIKE: AN INTERVIEW WITH INCUBUS CO-FOUNDER MIKE EINZIGER

She has performed with many artists (Ringo Starr, Dave Stewart, Mick Jagger to name a few.) Most recently now she is working with Hans Zimmer film composing. In a few days we’re going on tour in Europe with Hans. It’s a retrospective of his favorite film music. We just finished scoring a Sean Penn film with Hans. It’s called “The Last Face.” It’s been really awesome working with Sean. I didn’t know him before this project but he’s one of the most talented actors and directors. He’s just a visionary guy. It’s been really interesting getting to know him and his process. He loves music so much. He likes to try a lot of different things and he’s really good at explain what he wants. So it’s fun, you know. And Hans is really a great collaborator. We’ve done a lot of work together.
