Luc Besson called The Last Face "masterpiece"

Press killed Sean Penn's movie in #Cannes.
Sooo easy! Sean has courage that they will never have.
The film is a masterpiece.
I loved it!!

Can't wait to see the film.
Don't hold your breath because it might not get a release.

reply

This is a standing ovation ON THE WAY IN. They haven't seen the awful film yet.

Thanks for posting the link. Anyone can see that the clapping took place after the screening. The press was out to get the film before anyone saw it.

reply

what? The critics always see it in a different room.

reply

The critics saw the film in the morning. The actual premiere was that night. I don't know why they have the critics' screening before the premiere but that is the way they do it in Cannes.

reply

It scored the lowest of all the Cannes entry, a 0.2 score.

Luc Besson is entitled to his opinion but I trust the opinion of the Cannes juries.

reply

Wait, have you seen the film or just READ other people's reviews and "Scores"?

reply

Let me remind you that Luc Besson used to be Cannes president back in 2000.

Sean Penn’s The Last Face, starring Chalize Theron and Javier Bardem as aid workers in Africa, received a shocking eight X (no score) ratings on the way to an average of 0.2

With one rating yet to be submitted, the score marks it as a 13-year low for the Grid, placing it beneath last year’s The Sea Of Trees (0.6) and 2003 titles The Brown Bunny (0.5) and Les Cotelettes (0.3).

The French are masters of sarcasm.

In don't know if this film is good or not but I really liked the two clips. I would like to have the chance to see the film (but it might take time to get a US distributor). I do find it odd that before any of the press saw the film they were saying (on various blogs) that the film would be torn apart. It was like they had a vendetta against Penn. Many of the critics of today of quite cynical and would probably boo at Casablanca if it played at the festival today.

reply

I doubt it's sarcasm. Besson has worked with Sean Penn before. It is,however, probably a very biased opinion.

Now we can handle this like gentleman or we can get into some old gangster sh*tξ‚

reply

I don't think it is sarcasm. There must be some people who liked this film. I would think that Cannes committee liked it well enough to put it into competition.

reply

this movie could be a hit a lot of movies that had bad reviews are hit movies in theaters
