Film made more than 200k in its debut weekend. Low number per screen, however not as bad as expected

How many theaters did it play in? I can't imagine that it had a wide release.

Yeah, in Europe we can consider this almost as a "wide" release
shareWhile not wide - wide in the US that would still be quite a number of screens. I expect that here in the US it will only open in NYC and LA. I hope that I am wrong but that is what I expect. Have you seen the film?
Not of course, I haven't. But I respect Sean Penn's contribution to the contemporary cinematography, and to be honest have seen all his up to date work. So, I would love to see as well.
But at the same time, I don't remember when another movie was getting some nice release after being bombarded after its premiere. And it looks, without any bias towards critics, they were right and the movie is really bad. However, some folks like us will still see it.
That is a pretty good release. I can't say the critics are right until I see the film. The Sea of Trees was also torn apart at Cannes. I rented the film from Netflix and I really liked it.
I doubt that The Last Face will get 250 theaters in the US. Still waiting for a release date here. It is opening in Spain this week.
I just saw the last face and I actually liked it! It's not perfect but it has some good elements! At first all the close ups are awkward but it all makes sense. I found the movie powerful but yes hard to watch! It has a sort of accusating tone to it that might disturb many..it's very "in your face" but i think it all makes sense. The cinematography reminded me of Tree of life and Knight of cups..2 movies that i liked but that were disliked by many...so maybe that's another reason people disliked it. I think it's a misunderstood film that make people uncomfortable.
shareI am glad that you liked it musicfreak_80. I have a feeling that I will too. As you said, it is probably too in your face for most people. The other day I called the US distributor Saban Films and asked about a release date. They told me that they are aiming for March but there were not sure. They do expect it to play in NYC (where I live). But March is right around the corner so maybe it will be a bit later on.
