Bunch of crap

No matter how much narrative trickery a film uses, that's never enough to make up for a lame story, and that's exactly what's on display here.

It also doesn't help matters when the story presents itself as a Thriller, and without any foreshadowing at all, suddenly devolves into a supernatural story involving demonic possession in it's climactic third act.

I could almost overlook the ominous ambient sound design obviously ripped-off from David Lynch if it wasn't for the amateurish components above.

I do think the actors did good work, though...it's just too bad they had to support a juvenile story that tried to disguise itself as something that was deep and artsy.

I have to agree, but I still think it towers above the director's previous movie about a woman walking slowly in various rooms of her house...

It's almost as if the director is learning how to make a movie and we're being subjected to his various rough drafts and experiments... Still, the atmosphere and mood of this movie were good... The girls were creepy, so it worked on that level, which is more than one can say for a lot of horror movies these days...

However, I do think that the movie is a victim and symptom of the current fad of "art house horror"... It seems that the critics have elevated this movie far beyond what it merits because the critics themselves want to feel as if they are in on the next iconic arthouse horror movie... Also, the movie itself seems that it lacks another level that a more competent director or writer would give it (whether plot, ideas, philosophy, or context or whatever). It's as if the director knows that by positioning the movie as "arthouse horror" it is no longer necessary for the movie to be complete, for it to mean something, for it to have another level of sophistocation or of narrative, etc...

Maybe in a movie or two, this director will finally make a full movie...
