Brian De Palma?!

I just stared watching this at random on Netflix.

There's a scene where Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's character is sneaking up behind a bad guy... it's a close up of his wide-eyed expression as it's lit by weird neon light.

I thought: "Hey, there's a virtually identical scene with Nicolas Cage in Snake Eyes!"

That should have been my clue that this was directed by the same director of that movie.

When I saw De Palma's credit as director, I was in complete disbelief. Everything about this movie screams direct-to-VOD.

The director of Carrie, Scarface, Carlito's Way, The Untouchables and other cinema greats is reduced to this? Did he piss some studio exec off somewhere? Owe somebody a favour? Lose a bet?

How to account for his participation in this movie?

It was originally going to be much better before script and budget issues happened.
