The inherent stupidity in that line is staggering.

True! There aren't ANY confirmed cases.

I'm sorry but a religious MD isn't a neutral party. "He is also on the faculties of the Columbia University Psychoanalytic Institute and a Roman Catholic seminary."

Zero credibility.

Here's a comment from someone:

"Thank you, Dr. Gallagher! You are a man of medicine/science and a man of Faith."

"Very well documented and recognized by many in various professional fields." All but the right ones. Has his peers reviewed the study? What did they make of it?

Thank you for the link. It's a good start.

You totally ignored the list of others who witnessed the incidents, including those who are not religious.

Please list them for me. Thanks!

Sorry, I had forgotten you need a subscription on the Oxford Review to read the full article, on the previous link.

Sorry about the delay in replying. For some reason I didn't get a notification of your comment. Anywho, I don't really believe a word of this. An "unnamed woman" and folk who were allegedly there haven't said a single thing about it ... to anyone?! We're talking about a story that would silence every sceptic, atheist and agnostic in the world immediately. Also, that doctor is an Exorcist. (A very worrying career choice for this MD's patients. I wouldn't let the clown near a dying rat with seconds to live, nevermind a human!)

"Dr. Gallagher is the only American psychiatrist to have been a consistent U.S. delegate to the International Association of Exorcists, and has addressed its plenary session."

My two cents. A man says, thanks for the links!

Heck, even most priests nowadays agree that demonic possession is nonsense. What we've learned about the human psyche has thrown that boloney right out the door.

Even the story that inspired "The Exorcist" has been deemed to be nothing more than a kid with psychiatric issues, with none of the reported, supposed supernatural things actually happening.

As for ones that have been "witnessed"...they surely make a great story, don't they? Of course, "story" is the key word.

This statement you made is stupid. The movie definitely isn't the usual in the horror genre and it was done with a solid script, solid acting and it was intense throughout. It felt like a real documentary. Also if you don't think the U.S. or any other country's government would do the craziest things to try and win a war or have world dominance look at some of the stupid things they have done in the past to their own people. Also you think there are things they have done that we do not know about? Btw what about the experiments the Nazis did?

reply

This is a horror movie. The movie isn't acting like it's a real story that relates to real life. To believe anything they say or any words put on the screen is stupid. They aren't talking about real life. The X-Files did that stuff all the time. Did you all believe they were serious, too?

Everyone in the movie was acting, too. There's no reason to be outraged. Lol

Or would be if this wasn't a fictional story in which the government was looking for such phenomena to exploit and it really existed.

Actually there are grains of truth which enhance the feeling of reality in the movie.

The study of paranormal phenomena had quite a bit more respectability back then than it does now. Poor to non-existent results of such research combined with prevalent hoaxes(the guy with the magnets was a nice fictional example) changed this.

The Soviet Union, the United States and other governments did in fact study the possibilities of harnessing these powers, had they been proven to exist, for espionage and military purposes.

The movie cleverly takes the cultural atmosphere of the Cold War and the academic psi fad and asks "what would have happened if they had gotten unquestionably real results?" and adds the demonic element (typically not a subject of interest to secular paranormal researchers) as a wild card.
