I agree, it had style and a good script.

These days that's all it takes.

Me too - I loved it. It was different, it showed that the film makers had some new, imaginative ideas - so rare these day. I am so tired of "young people go to stay in a remote house in the woods" horror movies with their chains of clichés. But in this film, demonic possession was given a whole new spin. I don't think this film will ever be very popular though - it's too good. Much like the excellent but unfairly maligned "The Devil Inside" (2012). Some people say they like horror movies, but if it really scares them, they can't take it and they'll put the movie down. Well, I watched The Atticus Institute by myself after midnight, it chilled me and thrilled me, and provided a few dark laughs too. It's going into my list of the top ten horror movies of all time - Really.

I find your comment intriguing considering you mention the great The Devil Inside (personally, I found this film amateurish with no originality)

I'd be interested in the other 9 in your list.

Two for flinching!

I wouldn't say I loved it, but it really was a decent movie. The acting was pretty good for the most part, and I thought the 70's material was rather authentic-looking. I disliked the final scene with its super cheap CGI, but whatever. It was enjoyable up until that point.

I liked it too. Sure it was kind of silly (that whole bit with the paperclip was hilariously dumb), but it was well paced and entertaining. They did a good job with the seventies culture and film style, as well. It was more amusing than scary, but it was worth a watch. Most "horror" these days is pretty bad. I liked this one.

Movies are IQ tests. The IMDB boards are each person's opportunity to broadcast their score.

adidas_freak_forever I totally agree that it was a good movie and I would definitely rate it higher than many. It had an unusual way of presenting horror. I thought the acting was solid. It was suspenseful throughout. I don't know what more people could ask for. 8+ rated movie for me.

I loved it, too. Yeah, you can tell it had budget constraints, but on the whole the understated execution really works for the movie.
