Having just watched this beautiful film, I was completely astonished that someone could be so ignorant of Japanese culture (or non-western culture in general) that they assumed the title was a) aimed at a western audience and b) was an oblique reference to western profanities.
Anyway, I am really glad to see someone took the trouble to put the record straight and thank you for your knowledgeable reply - I am from England and only speak my native tongue, so it was fascinating to read about the term 'jigswa'.
A wonderful film by an incredible director, I have watched three of his films and all of them have been so delicately constructed and a pleasure to watch on so many levels.
