The doll looks so damn horrible now

I can't stand its face, it looks horrible, even the voice sounds bad, Brad doesn't even do it the same anymore. Whenever the doll talks the mouth moving looks like terrible CGI, the doll back in the 80's/early 90's in all the movies in parts 1-3 looked great, even looked great in Bride of Chucky, but in Seed, Curse and now Cult its looked like dogshit.

Just stop making these fucking movies if thats the best you can get the fucking doll to look.

Didn't really notice about the voice but I thought the same thing about the way the doll looked. I didn't even think it looked that bad in Curse but in this one it looked so off that it was just distracting.

It looks like one of those cheap knock off replicas dolls you can buy off ebay for $50, it looks nothing like the original doll from the older movies, it looks like a cheap plastic imitation.

In parts 1-3 at times you could almost say the doll looked like a real person, like a really small dwarf cause it looked so good. You would never think that about the doll in the recent movies, cause it looks like a cheap plastic doll being moved around on strings.

Too much CGI is a big problem with the newer movies as well. The doll in the old movies looked so much more realistic because despite it’s different variations, it was always a real physical object. I feel like the design of the actual doll in Cult was changed to match the doll created in the CGI effects. I don’t really mind CGI in action/adventure movies but with a few exceptions I really hate it in horror movies. I really like the remake of It, but the CGI for Georgie’s missing arm looked terrible and it seemed like it would’ve been such an easy practical effect giving the dark lighting, the rain, and the bulky raincoat for cover. Sorry off on a tangent now haha

You know what's funny. I wonder if they intentionally made the dolls in the last two movies look like the dolls you can still find at Spencer's for 75.00 just as a wink. I have one that I got back in 2002 and you know the mouth kind of looks like the one on the dolls in the last two movies(curse and cult). And yes there is a definite new face look in the new movies. I don't mind actually but I don't understand why they would not keep the same face for consistency. Is it supposed to be the new look of the new good guy model?

I always thought he was hideous and no child would ever want him. Nobody would buy him in reality. I understand what you are saying though. Now he looks like a buffoon. At least before he was somewhat tough looking.

The doll was actually based on the My Buddy dolls for boys from the mid-80s.

I think its a lower budget doll. Jennifer Tilly is still hot though

reply

Yeah but what was with her voice? Sounded like it was cracking every scene she was in.

How come they used a different voice for the classic good guy phrases like "hi I'm chucky wanna play". It's clearly not the same voice in fact it sounds like a older teenage boy trying to make his voice sound childish. Did not really bother me I found it more funny than anything.

reply

Yeah, Tilly looks the same but her voice is getting kinda up there in age. It just sounds tired.....maybe she talks too much in real life IDK lol?

Chucky now looks like a porcelain doll, the rugged maniacal look of the first three films was perfect and truly frightening. The new doll looks feminine like, almost attractive even.

Yeah i mean look at this pic from Child's Play 2 http://myvinylmuse.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/1381448349_21-1024x683.png It looked its absolute best in that movie imo, so real and as you said maniacal looking.

Spot on. That was one of the images that popped into my head as I typed my post. He's just so raw and menacing looking, like a store brought doll. Some fans might say he transferred his soul into a new doll as an upgrade, but really that's just an excuse.

The animatronics used in the first three films are truly scary looking and ahead of their time, especially the one in CP2 as you said.
