The Problem With Writer/Directors

I was thinking about the quality of Seed & Curse, and writer/directors in general.

There's a bit of a concensus that Seed is the worst in the franchise and it's the first to be directed and written by Don. I'm not trying to put him down by any means. I love Child's Play and he's a very talented writer, the problem is that there is no higher-power persay for Don to bounce ideas off of. The directors of the first four films had a lot of involvement in those final product, helping them become the best they can be.

I feel without creative input from someone else, we just might not get the best film possible.

I agree that it does help flesh out material a bit more when there's a second voice but, I do believe he works with another producer in some capacity.

I think seed was so badly received partially because the intentions were all wrong for a character like chucky.

Curse was a much better film partially because Mancini intended to get back to the horror roots of the series and he gave us a good back story for Charles Lee Ray.

Story wise I'm looking forward to this next film tying everything together and I'm excited to see Andy again.

Seed was bad because it was portrayed as more of a spoof. Don intentionally made it that way. He has said he likes the silly/campy side of dolls coming to life. Has nothing to do with needing help.

Seed was actually pretty good as a separate spoof kinda movie. It just didn't fit with the rest. Bride had a good balance.

As a horror fan, I simply couldn't enjoy Seed all that much. If its your favorite in the series, I must assume you're young.

Seed is the weakest of the franchise an the worst if your trying to judge it as a horror film which you arent supposed to each film must be judged for what it is seed is a spoof comedy its not a horror film it even spoofs the very franchise its part off as a spoof movie its ok not bad not good just ok its a film that must be judged as a joke how much you like it will depend on how funny it is for you.Seed is like a naked gun airplane type film

Seed is an ok comedy spoof film which is what its supposed to be but its not a good film in my opinion but its ok as for what the studio wanted i admire don for sticking to his guns but in terms of the film being bride of chucky 2 honestly that would have been a better film had this film continued the good horror comedy balance an dark blue lighting an tone of seed it would have been better so while i admire don for sticking to his guns a seed of chucky done in the style of bride would be a better idea

And it's people like you that gave us 8 years of Obama. Trump has a lot to repair and will probably be the best President of our lifetime.

The liberal people bring their own hatred to the table, and the Democrats are doing an excellent job in making sure no one votes for them again with the way they're all acting right now. I've never seen such sore losers in my life.

Also the only blood being shed is for those who are disposable. All countries need some population control. Families in poverty don't need to be reproducing, especially this day in age in which their children will grow up to only be able to handle tasks that machines will already be able to perform for a lower dollar amount. Instead we'll see their children either begging for money on a street corner or in a jail cell for committing crimes such as theft.

I think we should honestly snip the poor so that we won't have to worry about them just adding to the world's problems.

The studio was going to give him a big budget to essentially make Bride Of Chucky 2, but Don told them he'd rather take the lower budget and have free reign to be himself and make his art.
Is there proof to your statement? I personally don't remember hearing that.

Now that you worded it that way.....yes.

Familiar to what?

How can we know Universal backed away from slasher movies because of columbine? Did Universal say anything like that?

If there's any info about Seed focusing on the kid and leaving out Chucky I'd like to read that. I've never heard that before.

In an interview with Director Don Coscarelli of Phantasm fame, he explained that a new head of production took over at Universal during the 80's who was a big horror fan and he streamlined the production of many genre films including Phantasm II and the Child's Play sequels.

When he left, Universal moved away from the genre.

reply

Oh. That doesn't mean colombine affected the Chucky movies.

Agreed.

I enjoyed Seed for its black humor. The visual effects supported that. It wasn't a scary movie but it still was a great story to add to the franchise.

reply

Don Mancini is a much better writer than director.

Seed of Chucky is the reason why there are no more theatrical releases for Chucky. It killed the franchise on the cinemas and Universal decided not to make the same mistake ever again, so it's VOD and DVD/BR from now on.
