Colt 45's/Thompson submachine guns?

Just one quibble. The Norwegian commandos are being run by British SOE circa 1943. Yet they seem to be exclusively equipped with Colt 1911 pistols and Thompson submachine guns.
That doesn't seem to be the right mix. Sten guns would be more like it.

Also, there's a lot of two-handed grip action involving the Colt 1911's. I believe back then only a one-handed grip was taught.

dead-on, exactly what I thought.

the .45 Thompsons was such a stupid mistake for weapons for British-aligned Commandos/Paratroops, that it was off-putting...they came in more like Sergeant Saunders or al Capone..

I'm sure you're right about the colts as well, and I'm not sure if they would have been the likely handgun issue anyway..

Actually they did use both the Colt .45 and Thompson's.

First of all the Kongsberg Colt was the standard issue sidearm for Norwegian forces before the war, so several of the saboteurs were familiar with the gun. Also due to shortages, the SOE often had to rely on foreign weapons.

The Thompson was used because it, unlike the Sten gun, was rarely used by resistance fighters, and the saboteurs wanted to avoid German reprisals against Norwegian civilians after the attack, and so by leaving behind one of the Thompsons they sent a message to the Germans that this was done by British troops not Norwegians.
