Also mention other good Scandinavian TV series.
shareHave you seen the movie Max Manus? It's also about Norwegian freedom fighters during ww2.
shareYes, I have seen it. It was a good movie.
shareMax Manus is a solid film. Age of Heroes (although a fictional story) is also worth checking out -- some of the same Norwegian actors appear in that as well.
shareI second tommynilson's Max Manus recommendation, if you can find it. I believe it was streaming on Netflix when I saw it a few years ago, but it's gone now--too bad because this Heavy Water mini-series sorta put me in the mood to watch MM again.

Occupied (Okkupert) is a great series and is currently available on Netflix

"No more talking from things that don't talk!" - Jaye Tyler
Hey, I just started watching it. Looks interesting.
shareHaven't seen the documentary but I have seen some episodes of Wallander and found it to be ok. The bridge and the killing were much better. Leviathan is in my watchlist. Tx for the recommendations.
shareThere is also this danish movie about a resistence cell. Im not sure if you can get it with english subtitles.

You should check out the documentary "Alliert og alene". It is about the German invasion of Norway and the subsequent allied effort to stop German forces from taking Narvik, an important harbour for the transportation of Swedish iron ore to the Nazies. Unfortunately I haven't found the series on IMDB and I don't know if it has an English title or where you can see it outside of Norway, but I recon it should be out there somewhere. For Norwegian viewers you can find it here https://tv.nrk.no/serie/alliert-og-alene/kmte30001111/sesong-1/episode-1
Edit: I found a version on VIMEO demand, but I'm not sure about the subtitles.

"Occupied" is also a great show. It takes place in the not too distant future where Norway is beginning to use thorium as a major source of energy and has shut down its oil platforms. The EU doesn't like this development and Russia moves in and occupies the platforms and starts up production.
Its an interesting take on Euro politics and especially after seeing "Heavy Water Wars."
I don't know if it counts, but 'Nobel' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4591834/ is a sort of spiritual successor to this series. Many of the same actors are in it, except this time it's a modern setting in afghanistan and norway. Interestingly, the soldiers in that series are from a group known as FSK, an elite military unit which was founded as a direct result of the actions of the soldiers in this series from WW2.
Nobel is fiction, though, albeit very realistic.
