Ogre question

I don't really care about spoilers (as I have not seen the movie yet) or I wouldn't be asking this question.

However it has come to my attention that a lot of people say this creature raped the princess. Now is this actually something that is made known (even if it's not shown) in the movie or are people just assuming he did(like people tend to do jumping to conclusions and all) because he kept her locked up?

Note: this wont ruin the movie for me either way it goes. Just want a perspective on the things I've been reading.

Please don't say "Watch the movie" as I plan to as soon as possible, and since I'm off work tomorrow hopefully that is when it will happen.

reply

I just finished with the movie, and I didn't think she was raped.

It's not even implied. There were scenes where ogre seems to force her, but that was just to show his male dominance.

And yeah, watch the movie. I felt it was good. The visualization is par, if not sub.

reply

Ha. Male dominance?

Er... Grabs sobbing girl, roughly drags her over to a stone bed where he throws her down and mounts her. Nothing about that wasn't rapey.

Then later when the circus lady says she'll be back the next day, I think the horror of spending another night with him is pretty clear.

It's not shown, but it's definitely insinuated. Maybe double check your definition of rape.

reply

Male dominance huh? Well I guess if you're a male potbelly pig you might look at it that way. We humans tend to call that rape.
Had the ogre ask if she wanted to have sex with him, what do you think the reply would have been?

reply

I didn't see him "mount" her. He just lay next to her with his hand over her, like to keep hold of her so she couldn't run away.

Just finished watching and I did not think she was raped.

reply

Say what??? You either don't remember that part or you are remember another male and female moment with other characters.

LMAO!

reply

He puts her on a (stone) bed and gets on top of her, while she is sobbing and crying in terror.

But rape wasn't implied.

I love these forums. :D

reply

He probably did, yes. It is not something that is shown explicitly in the movie.
However, I should note that this is highly irrelevant to appreciating the fairy tale and the movie. A lot of gruesome things happen in both the movie and the original fairy tales it is based on.

Edit: Actually, I will change my answer: it is up to the viewer to decide whether the ogre raped her or not (it is not explicitly shown, as I said). But, at the end of the day, the question (as I've said again) is totally irrelevant.
It's like asking whether the wolf, in the original Red Riding Hood story, was a pedophile. Honestly, the term 'rape' when watching this fairy tale makes very little sense to me...

'Love', and 'desire', however, do.

reply

Irrelevant though it may be(and it is) I was only asking because how much was posted about that particular aspect of this movie when I made this thread originally. It was almost every other post about this silliness. So I figured I'd just ask.

reply

Please don't be so naive! Ofc he raped her! I cannot understand how anyone can doubt that!

reply

How is it naive when I haven't watched the movie? I haven't even been able to find this thing to watch on top of that being that I don't use torrents it's become taxing to even locate.

Anyway I don't just assume people being held captive (women or otherwise) are just raped. Kind of a conclusion to jump to.

Oh, you were held captive in a cave by a troll.
RAPE IS THE OBVIOUS ANSWER.

How would the act with something that size(based off pictures/trailer etc) NOT kill her to begin with?<---Probably the reason some people doubt it by the way, and that's a reasonable doubt.

reply

Was not meant to be posted as a straight reply to your post, but a reply to another one.

Nah my fault, I was not observant enough lol!

females, not raping them.

It was all our imagination because what happened was after he cleared the human remains for her to walk and then offered her piece of animal hind leg, he then serenaded her, brought out wine and candles. She was so taken, that she began to sob hysterically in happiness.

Derp.

reply

I still haven't seen this movie to understand the tone you are even taking right here. If you're being sarcastic or otherwise. I mean if he did do all of that I could see her sobbing because she knew she was never going to get away.

How about a straight forward post to someone who hasn't seen it, or at least let me know where I can catch it.

Everyone has told you what happened. Either you are one slow puppy, or you are just trolling.

reply

Hm.

These are two replies I got

I just finished with the movie, and I didn't think she was raped.

So I got one saying it didn't happen (first reply) then a little ways down one proclaiming it certainly did happen. Then a conversation broke out about how it could or could not have happened.

Without seeing it and without being slow or a troll the answer would be inconclusive. I suppose I'll just have to watch for myself.

Maybe...you should have read the replies before trying to berate me for whatever reason you saw fit. Thank you for your time though and at least replying to my thread.

If I could take another moment though. aside from Amazon do you know where I could try to see this at? Is it on a service like Netflix or anything?

Lot's of free websites that stream movies. Just put in the title + free and there you go.

But yes he did rape her. The director spared us the details and cut the scene before he took it.

It mean it is just like movies where a child is implied to be molested. You see the adult unloosen his tie and zipper, and the door closes on the little girl.

I mean do we really need to see the stuff, to realize he wasn't going to read her a bedtime story?

I guess I snapped at you, because I did read almost all of these responses, in addition to responses regarding the example movie I was just talking about.

I honestly don't mind paying for it, I just don't want to go through Amazon. For some reason, but I guess if it's just faster and easier I'll do that. I try not to do that kind of stuff often though.

Some say it's left up to us to interpret but the majority vote seems to be he did. So I'll go with that.

Lol I guess not, but that would be hilarious if that was the true outcome.

Honestly it's fine, I wasn't bothered ( i have thick skin). Personally the "Yes he did" "No he didn't" "left up to decide" kind of just confused me.

reply

Okay, just watched it again, and it's left completely open. He might have left her be or he might have raped her.

reply

Do you know where I can get my hands on a physical copy of this movie or at least somewhere to digitally buy it or something? I'm having no luck, and I just might not be looking hard enough.

Also thank you for that response.

I rented it digitally with my tablet from Amazon.com.

I strikes me that, having seen the movie, there is no suggestion, implied or otherwise, that the ogre rapes Violet. I think the people who are saying 'Yes..he obviously did' are saying that because they want to believe she was raped. Which says far more about them than the film. There is absolutely no suggestion at all that Violet is raped by the ogre.

reply

Sadly I keep forgetting to find this and watch it because every time I'm about to go on a search for this flick something comes up. Thankfully my day today is free. I'm happy you came back and bumped this so I could remember to look into it.

i just watched this, and it is heavily implied that she is raped. he drags her to the bed, pushes, her down, climbs on top of her and he starts struggling with her in a way that suggests that he is removing her clothes, while she screams. the scene then fades to black while her screams can still be heard. what do you think he was doing, telling her a bedtime story?

reply

Forcing some to have sex against their will is rape the Ogre was a brute and rapist

reply

I doubt the sincerity of your question as much as I question your motive for asking about rape in particular. Of all the questions you may conjure up about a movie you haven't seen, why the obsession with rape ?
Your transparent excuse of having seen others posting comment about the alleged/suggested/implied rape in this movie doesn't fool me as I have seen very little or NONE.
So...I WILL say go and watch he movie and take your creepy, inappropriate comments with you. Your question says more about you than it does the need to know about a very small but specific part of the film.

reply

Yes, she absolutely was raped. He dragged her to his bed, roughly pushed her onto it,and got on top of her. They did not show him removing her clothes or actually raping her, as the scene closes when he is on top of her and just starting to work at those things. But there's no doubt that she was raped. I have just watched that very scene. Have not yet finished the movie. It is definitely a rape.

You know what they say... no one with missing teeth wears an Armani suit.

reply

I mean the ogre was very civilized. They drank wine, ate cheese and slow danced. He was quite the romancer.

He is a freaking Ogre. Of course her raped her. I was surprised he didn't eat her, which is what they normally do with humans.

reply

This is something I assume ogre's do. I don't assume Ogre's rape women, hell I don't assume they are even attracted to them for the most part I'd usually think they'd just eat a human regardless of gender they're just dinner, or maybe breakfast.

No idea why this movie did what it did with them.

but he got to third base? Frisky bastard.
