What happened to Cox?

Vaughn shot and killed him from behind right before he was going to kill the bus driver.

The news was broadcasting the whole thing live. Cox had his gun aimed at the driver and it seemed as if he shot the driver when in fact Vaughn shot him all along

Did he die or escape? He was just gone. Did I miss something?
