How stupid is this Movie concept? Pathetic! Sharon Tate was murdered - she was pregnant! Hey! Why not make a movie about killing the movie makers who trash people's lives?

reply

So they shouldn't have movies on Hitler, Stalin, Bin Laden,... Oh, wait

reply

Titanic...

reply

yeah oh wait, those movies aren't classed as Comedies.

What next I wonder. A kids comedy about the school massacre of Sandyhook ?

reply

Yeah, takes someone particularly ignorant and callous to make a "kookie" movie glorifying a group of butchering psychopaths who brought generations of pain to innocent people.

reply

Yeah, just like that callous Roberto Benigni, making a comedy about the Holocaust (Life is Beautiful), and the ignorant Academy that gave him an Oscar for his efforts...

reply

Now have a good think about the value of that film being made compared to this one being made. Take your time.

You think that film is bad, just imagine if Jerry Lewis would've finished and released his holocaust film "The Day The Clown Cried." Cinema is art.. and art isn't always pretty.

Anything for a buck.

Hmm. Your screen name is either from Team America, or it's a huge coincidence. Kind of funny, you talking about making light of serious things with a screen name like that.

reply

What are you spewing about? Like this is the first movie based on a tragedy? Go kick rocks you newb.

I actually agree with you. I read a lot, of the other comments, on this thread, and I understand, their points of view, too. Here is where, I will elaborate further. It is fine, to have a movie, such as Helter Skelter, to explain the Manson murders (ie: what happened, where it happened, who was murdered, the trial, etc.) It is also okay, to have movies, explaining who Hitler was, or Stalin, or even Ed Gein, and John Wayne Gacy. These films can help people learn, how their minds operated, etc., to hopefully prevent things, like their terrible acts, from happening again. There are professors, law enforcement, doctors, etc., who study, these people, to try to understand, "why" these people did, what they did. It is also fine, to make Horror films, Thrillers, etc. There are many fans, of the Horror genre. What I have the problem with, in this case, is about, what you, had originally stated. Sharon Tate was a human being...someone's wife (and she was about to be someone's mother), someone's daughter, someone's sister...etc. She was loved. She was pregnant, and died a terrible, frightening death! Her baby was nearly cut, out of her body, and her family, had to be subjected, to all of the horrible things, that she went through, during the Manson murder trial. I do not believe, that it is "okay", to take this terrible tragedy & loss, and make a "fiction", horror-based movie, to make money. It just feels wrong to me, for them, to do so. (I was glad, that they waited, until her Mom, was no longer around, but there are, other family members of hers, that are still alive.) Someone mentioned Titanic, and I got to thinking...the director DID make a "fictional" story, that he injected into the Titanic story line. But, I have read many, many books, on the subject of Titanic, and the director, took painstaking care, to include details, of actual incidents, and people, who died aboard the Titanic ship, and paid them, great respect. For example, the old couple, who stay in the bed, on the ship, as it goes under, ACTUALLY were a couple on Titanic, that refused to be seperated! I feel that the director "honored" the people, who died, on that ship, WHILE injecting his story, into the film, to help...say the younger generation, to enjoy it, and perhaps to go, and look into, what actually happened with the Titanic ship! I do believe, it is all about perspective. I feel, that this particular film, was in poor taste, but that is just "my" humble opinion. I have always felt for Sharon Tate's family, and the LaBianca family, because all of the victims were Innocent, and had never wronged, Charles Manson. Sharon Tate's Mom was at EVERY parole hearing, to keep the murderers, and Manson, behind bars...until she died, in 1992, from a brain tumour. Then, one of her daughters, took over, going to the Parole hearings in her mother's place...so for them, it is NEVER over. Maybe this is a good film. I do not know. But, what I do know, is no one, should be "glamorizing" what Manson, and his Family/Followers did, period. Again, just my humble opinion.

I love. That is all. But I love strongly, exclusively..steadfastly.

reply

Please don't worry. Sharon Tate is not in the movie. That's not what the movie is about.

reply

I am truly glad, that she is not, a part of the film. Thank you, for letting me know that. I also hope, that it does not disrespect her memory.

I love. That is all. But I love strongly, exclusively..steadfastly.

I'm sorry, I know this is off topic, but what is up with you and all the commas in your post, naughty36? It's a pointless observation, I know. You have commas in your sentences where a comma isn't needed, and you used a comma in every single sentence it seems. Like every 3 to 4 words you had a comma, which looks funny. You're going comma crazy it seems. Not trying to sound like a grammar Nazi, it just looked strange so I had to ask.

"What time is it?"
"What time is, it?"

See? It's just funny looking sentence structure. Your own special brand of grammar I guess.

reply

LOLOL Burning_Sosobra...You are perfectly welcome, to condemn, my Comma usage! :D I am "comma crazy". I always have been. Even when I would write a perfect paper, back in my school days, I would have tons of red ink, circling my commas! I admit it...I put commas in, where I think, that they should be...not where they are "supposed" to be! Please do not hold it against me. LOL

I love. That is all. But I love strongly, exclusively..steadfastly.

reply

Haha. It's all good! I was just, curious about the, commas you use, after every few, words. 😜 Keep up the comma craziness!

You're a woman, right?

First of all, Manson has become a mythical figure in american folklore. Not only is he one of the figureheads of the demise of the 60s counterculture, not only was he a loser in society (ex-convict, bastard, drug addict) who was beaten down and spat on by society, who , in turn, rose up to lead a cult to overthrow the normies of society and create terror and confusion in society in order to truly convey the message of counterculture - namely that "robot-mentality" of society is oppressive and dangerous - only to lose control and let his anger take charge.

Manson is a just a great story, a great character. He is in jail for life, not for murdering Tate/LaBianca, but for supposedly asking others to carry out an attack. His hands, in the matter of Tate/LaBianca, albeit not clean, are not red with blood.
Manson was, and is, a charismatic character. Yes, he speaks a lot of gibberish, and is clearly desperate for attention, but he is still a big part of history.

What this movie singlehandedly does, which none have done before, is portray Mansons status today. Some of us have read about Grey Wolf and Star, and all the other current Manson-cohorts, and about what his followers are still posting daily online, but no movie has tackled it yet.
This movie accurately portrays Manson today, the way Helter Skelter accurately portrayed Manson in 69.

Like it or not, Manson happened, is still happening. He is still a cash cow. He is still hot in the news. People want to know.
I know some refuse to accept it, claim that it's grotesque to want to read about death and murder, how "these were actual human lifes". Yes. So was every single person who died in the Vietnam war. Are you against Apocalypse Now too?
It's natural to be curious of such horrendous acts. They define us. We can say "there but for the grace of God go I" or simply think that there are some out there who, for better or worse, live life on another plane. Whos mind is not whitewashed by family and kids and mortgages and raises and premiums. Who are bodies without organs, who, for better or worse, are living outside the box. Be it Charles Manson or Chris McCandless.

Everything you're saying is true...yet...there really are these people like the brother in the film. You've met them, I've met them, seemingly harmless, or so we like to think, but who go on a kick and get all obsessed with this stuff. After all, Helter Skelter was a huge best seller and then a huge TV mini series - is that all that different? So now they make tons of these low budget pictures with similar plot as this one, with weird old friend or black sheep of the family coming back and how does the normal middle class person relate to them? Sometimes there's a road trip, sometimes not. Eg.Happy Christmas, Hump Day, Old Joy, Chuck & Buck, etc - so this one has a Manson fan. I remember guys like him from HS, don't you?

reply

You do, also have, a very valid point too. I have actually studied Charles Manson, and the Manson "family", myself. That is how I know, what I know, about this issue. I guess, I am just hoping, that someone (ie: a film maker, director, writer, etc), would not make "light", of what happened, back in 1969, to Sharon Tate, and her friends, etc.

I love. That is all. But I love strongly, exclusively..steadfastly.

reply

why don't you just watch the movie and judge for yourself. There are some uncomfortable scenes but they are balanced with the reaction of the "normal" brother to them.

This film was well done and very entertaining, and no worse than any of TV's trashy reality shows.

This movie took a couple of aspects of a real life situation that hasn't been given much attention. It has nothing to do with the murders other than they are mentioned along with some other facts. You gave a much more vivid description of what happened there than the movie does. Are you being disrespectful of this woman and unborn child?

This movie played on the fact the family members wanted to belong to a group because they didn't feel like they belonged in the cultures each was from. And more importantly, this movie gave a possible story line of what it might be like to be one of Manson's children. I don't think that has been covered before.

All in all, as someone familiar with this part of our history, this was a drama, but done fairly well. I don't think anyone belonging to the families of the victims has or will get offended. This is a piece of cake compared to what they have had to learn to live with.
