So very, very white!

I get that this probably is representative of the folks who are actually working in the field, but really, would it be so difficult to find non white contestants or judges?

reply

Ivonne doesn't count? :P They could (and should!) bring in Kevin Clash to guest judge or something.

Uuuuuuh....isn't he going through sort of a rough time right now? Like, you know...the scandal and all? I heard Sesame Street fired him.

reply

That's what I was going to say! I doubt he'll be on any time soon lol. And it's for the best, especially if the accusations are true.......

reply

He wasn't fired from Sesame Street, he stepped down himself.

Ever heard the word 'token'?

Also Kevin Clash is a puppeteer not a creature designer.

But this is not 'To Catch a Predator'

I'd like to see a show that for once has the BEST artists. If they're all white fine if they're all black fine, all asian, etc. I dont want to see a forced diverse cast simply for political correctness. Show is supposed to be about finding the best artist/designer person.

reply

Not in today's world. Every company is filled with minorities who are NOT the best for the job. The company has to make some kind of percentage of minority employees.

Please share your evidence. What companies are you referring to and which minorities are you speaking of? With a statement like that I'm sure you can be more specific.

Here's some specific evidence that shows the exact opposite of what you're claiming. Only 1% of America's CEOs are black according to a report conducted by Forbes magazine and Deloitte University Leadership Center for Inclusion in 2013.

According to data compiled by the General Accountability Office and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the GAO reported that minorities held just 10 percent of the management positions in the field of financial services.

Those are just two examples but you can pick almost any field and look at positions held by management and higher up's and see that minorities are grossly under represented in terms of their percentage of the population. There could be legitimate reasons for that disparity but I'm not arguing about reasons. I'm addressing your comment that "every company is FILLED with minorities who are not best for the job". I've heard this kind of thing over and over but the statistical data does not fall in line with that particular meme. First, there's no company in this country "filled with minorities" of any kind. Second, there's no credible data or statistical information that says minorities who do hold significant positions in companies are less competent than their non minority counterparts. Third, I believe race should not matter when hiring someone. If all the qualified candidates are white, then that's fine with me. But ugly stereotypes like "minorities aren't qualified for the positions they hold", are damaging to public perception, and those who believe that are less likely to hire someone who's extremely qualified and black over someone who's just barely qualified and white.

I understand the need to believe something like that from someone such as yourself. It becomes the scapegoat for your shortcomings and assuages your insecurities. When someone lacks personal accomplishment they find other ways to measure their self worth. In your case you've found it in a tangential connection to a group you share a skin color with. It's sad to take pride in something that required no special ability other than being born with european ancestry. It doesn't take a genius to debunk your racist claims, but maybe my expectations have artificially elevated your ability to understand everything I have just written. But even if that is the case, I'd still like to thank you for putting your ignorance on display as an example of what bigotry and hate looks like. It gives us all a chance to see what we do not want to become.

Just wanted to electronically shake your hand for your calm, rational, and elegant replies to these brain-dead bigots.

He was plainly upset over a couple "hate facts" that he didn't like, so he typed up a bunch of empty blather that amounted to nothing more than armchair psychology and imagined ad hominem. That's anything but being calm or rational. Feel free to ruminate over the causes but you cannot deny the fact that the average IQ for American blacks is 85 and only 15% of American blacks have an IQ of 100 or more, and they are only an eighth of the American population to begin with. This is why blacks are seemingly underrepresented in very high profile corporate positions. He has refuted absolutely nothing in this entire topic.

But he's black and shares the same ideological conditioning as you so he "won," and I'm "brain-dead." If I'm the bigot, what does that make you?

reply

Perhaps you should use some of that Caucasian brain power you're so proud of to study this Harvard-produced book about the bias in IQ tests.

All I really need to know is that someone who thinks a Jim Henson puppet discussion board is an appropriate place to roll out his preciously held factoids about black people having low IQs is obviously a raging a$$hole with mental problems.

Thanks yojim. I really appreciate it.

@demon-62: I wish there were are applause emoticon here, but since we don't have one, I'll just follow your blog instead. Well said, kudos and thank you for not stooping to their level (although based on your writing I can tell that's pretty much impossible 😉 )

I don't do signatures. ^_^

Thanks snk2005. I really appreciate the support. The guy I was having this exchange with decided to delete his side of the conversation. I guess he realized how ignorant his point of view made him look.

Yeah, I logged into my administrator account to delete it.

God, you are such a moron.

Point of fact, I actually saved the conversation because it amused me.

You were destroyed. All you could offer up was the some pathetic, generic armchair psychology and ad hominem. The facts stood unchallenged.

See you around. #MAGA

Here was the conversation in full (the post that was deleted by the poster wasn't mine, and his first response wasn't towards me):

He's a windbag and couldn't contest any facts, just try to attack the messenger when he knows absolutely nothing about me. Random, generic, armchair psychology. The fact that he's getting praised even years later for GETTING DESTROYED IN THE DEBATE proves the original guy's point. He is black, you are a soulless cuckold, so you must virtue signal.

I mean:
"thank you for putting your ignorance on display as an example of what bigotry and hate looks like"

What is this idiot even replying to? Average IQ American blacks = 85. FACT. Only 15% of blacks have an IQ greater than 100. FACT.

Ruminate on the causes all you want, those are the facts. That's why there aren't more black CEOs. They don't have the talent pool, and the board and its share holders want to make profit not advance social causes (other than when they hire incompetent women). Simple logic.

I'm just stunned that people think racist bean counting is actually a valid thing to do. I would be embarrassed to post such a thing.

Sesame Street and The Muppet Show have been champions of diversity for as long as they've been around.

If I recall correctly, Sesame Street also had lessons about working hard, trying your best, being a good loser or winner, etc..

I don't ever recall any lessons about quotas based on race or anything else. I always took away more of a colorless "Be good to each other and always do your best" kind of vibe.

But maybe that's just me.

I'm pretty sure the contestants who competed were chosen from the best of all the applicants who had even HEARD about the opportunity to be on the show. I'm also sure many were afraid to take the risk because of self-doubt, prior commitments, fear of losing their regular jobs and NOT winning, etc..

Now everyone stop making Kermit and Big Bird cry.
