Why was the "mom" dying in the hospital? Had she been in an accident? Why wasn't Dae Eun told about her?? I mean, what was the "father's" motivation to keep the daughter and "mother" apart, since she obviously didn't go to the police about the original kidnapping?? Did the "mother" know about the second kidnapping?

I can't tell if I zoned out while watching this, or if the subtitles were inadequate.

I think the mother had cancer. She stayed away, because she wasn’t Da-Eun’s mother. She may have felt some guilt about the kidnapping of Da-Eun, but not enough guilt to turn her husband in. I can't remember if she new about the boy's kidnapping or not.
