The British invasion! Pan Am logo

Check out the Pan Am logo behind John, Paul, Ringo, and George during the press conference when they first arrived here in America.

If you want to read about an American Company that knew the value of exposure to the masses....read any book about the history of Pan American Airlines.

...they still sell some retro Pan Am merchandise. I went to a flight festival nearby a couple of years ago, and one table was selling some Pan Am bags and other accessories. There is also the online store http://www.panam.com/shop.html, although I haven't bought anything from there however.

Thanks Mist. I will check it out.

I bought 4 dinner plates that were used in flight. An EBay. Auction.

These are made in Germany By Bauscher Wieden.

It says on the back "Designed for Pan Am"

Pan Am was nothing but first class.

Thanks for the link Mist.

I got a couple of marble paperweights from the mid 70's.

Cool, very cool!

Maybe they were used in the Pan Am building in the sixties?

I would love to get my hands on one of those "Blue Ball" logo signs.

Like the one behind the Beatles in that shot of them first arriving in New York.

Did you see on Youtube the very first 747 that was delivered to Pan Am ended up being auctioned off and then used as a restaurant?

No. they were promo gift shop things in the mid 70's. My friend's father worked for Pan-Am. He used to bring home all kinds of promo stuff back then. One night he brought home a case of about 25 or 30 of these paperweights. They were individually gift boxed, but the entire case got waterlogged somehow. So I guess they were getting tossed, so he took them home and gave them out to the neighborhood kids.

I have two. One mint and one with slight rust stains. They are about 3 inch square block of white marble with a Pan-Am painted metal plaque logo embedded in it.

It's not merchandise from the failed TV series or the failed revival of the company in the late 90's. It's real Pan Am stuff from the hey-day of air travel.

NYC gift shops were flooded with new stuff from that failed TV series a couple years ago. So if you're going to buy something, be careful. It might not be vintage.

Thanks for the heads up rp!

I liked that TV show about Pan Am. I wish it hadn't been cancelled so soon.
