That's the actual ferry captain!

During the Q&A after the Writers' Guild screening of "Sully" on Saturday, screenwriter Todd Komarnicki told the audience that's the real captain of the NY Waterways ferryboat that was first on the scene playing himself, and got a huge laugh telling us his name is Vince Lombardi. There's a great interview with him on Youtube, and he seemed every bit as modestly professional as Captain Sullenberger. When the interviewer asked him how he felt getting his last passenger safely aboard, he just said, "I had to get these people to shore. They were cold."

Cool clip! Is it true he only charged the passengers half price because he only had to take them halfway across the river?

you know, i was thinking that too. he just seemed too real to be an actor and i figured they probably used the real guy. neat. :)

It's so funny, when watching it I thought "that guy is a pretty good actor, he really nailed the average "New Yorker" (based on my limited interactions with them)." Now I know why!
