There's basically two ways you can make a movie out of this. You can either do a psychodrama about how the media attention affects Sully, or you do a standard biopic which goes into how he became a pilot and his career. The movie we got pays lip service to both concepts, but doesn't commit to either, and doesn't have anything interesting in place of them. Most of the movie is made up of the landing and subsequent rescue operation, neither of which have any tension not only because the story is so well-known, but also because the movie constantly beats us over the head with the fact that everyone survived. Eastwood doesn't even try and make it tense, either; there's no music, no intensity. It's all static and flat. To give him a little credit, it's nice that he remembered color exists, and the performances are great all-around. It's just not engaging or entertaining.
If you can't defend a movie without bashing another, you will be put on ignore. No exceptions.
