What is Del's problem?

If someone exactly like Del could be diagnosed what would doctors find out? What is the matter w/ him? Over 10 years ago there was this family next door to me and their kid who was like 10 at the time had a behavior that was very similar to Del’s. He was very slow, he would forget things you just told him. He would often get reality confused with fantasy and I remember that he would often crap his pants in school or wherever and had to be taken back home. I never asked that family what was the deal w/ the kid, of course. But I always wondered.
