Why didn't Hannah flush the food down the toilet or take it with her and trash it somewhere? She was old enough to know that food rots and stinks after a while

I follow several girls with eating disorders on Tumblr, and a lot of them have hidden food in their room and even thrown up in plastic bags and hidden them as well. Eating disorders are secretive. They can make you feel paranoid about people finding out, and I guess hiding food can seem like the thing to do when you don't want to risk someone catching you in the act of binging or purging.

shareI thought the same thing! Flies, roaches, maybe mice, but moths? Whoever wrote this was insane. How did they ever get the green light for such a flawed project? There have been several excellent anorexia films.
shareMoths are drawn to the smell of fermented sugar and ripe fruit. So rotting fruit would attract moths.

shareI agree it was a metaphor, and flawed! As far as her keeping all of it in her closet, I thought Mary Margaret did the same in the secret life of Mary Margaret? I don't fully understand it either but I think paranoia would fit the deeper they get into the illness. I true feeling about the movie was to try to bring awareness to the illness and scare the living crap out of anyone who thinks they want this kind of illness.
shareI actually use to throw up in my bedroom and keep it in containers and only empty them once my family was out of the house. It was all because i didnt want to get caught and it was most def about keeping it a secret. Its gross and revolting i know.....but when your stuck in an ed you dont care about that sort of thing. Eds make people do weird stupid things most people without an ed cant seem to understand fully.
