Just watched it...(spoilers)

So overall, I think this movie was pretty decent.

To everyone saying that it wasn't 'realistic' enough and the grips of anorexia happened way too fast, what do you expect? This is a made for t.v. movie that has to cram all of this in to fit a 2 hour block of time.

As a sufferer of eating disorders myself I thought the behaviors and thought process of the main character were pretty accurate- and the grip of anorexia is strong and will hold on tight.

I like how Hannah was was diagnosed with an eating disorder nos, or not otherwise specified rather than just anorexia. No movie about an eating disorder is ever going to be 100% perfect, and everyone who struggles has different experiences from it.

I did appreciate the twist ending. Personally I did not see it coming. This adds on to the stigma and lack of knowledge that boys can and do suffer with eating disorders too! It was apparent that Leo had been far into the grip of pro-ana sites long before his sister. He managed to be secretive and hide it so well that his parents had no clue and were so distracted by Hannah that he could endulge and carry out his anorexic behaviors with ease.

It was pretty dark, IMO for a lifetime movie.

I actually watched the movie a second time and noticed a little bit of foreshadowing that I didn't catch on to the first time concerning Leo. Small things. Like when he was hesitant to help his mother figure out what website Hannah was visiting and his defensiveness when he said "just because she has been to this site doesn't make her anorexic." Also when his mom first pulls up the site his expression isn't that of horror or surprise. He looks worried, maybe even guilty because he is a member as well.

Also, if you watch closely during the dinner scene when they have the organic pasta, Hannah isn't the only one not eating. Ironic how the mother scolds Hannah for not taking a single bite but neither does Leo. You can even see him pushing meatballs around on his plate and fiddling with his fork.

Was it the best movie ever involving eating disorders? No. But was it the worst? No.

Pro-ana sites can be deadly and I think this movie portrayed that very well.

Ciao,

Peace & Love
